You could sell the V and get a 98 F body with a cable throttle never have to worry about the motor and be in Big Macs for years. I will always have the do it once , do it right mentality. I don't like doing things over and over just because the replacements are cheap when they fail not to mention DBW control is kind of important to safety.
Agreed whole heartedly

We are here to discuss the failure rate mainly, right? Beyond that it is just opinion on make and quality.

I know a few people have had issues, but have also read of NW issues too. It’s a numbers game i guess, and I’m ignorant.

Have you messed with one of these in person Matt?

When it comes down to it, I trust your evaluation.

So much hate for China in here. I get it though, if you have a bad experience with anything your quick to let everyone know. I'll stick to the facts of my experience...

I have run both, compared them side by side; even had someone hand me both before I had seen or run either and ask me which was the "expensive" one. I got them backwards fwiw and based my guess on appearance of the overall unit and feel of the blade actuating by hand. I am a seasoned product designer in the r&d division of my company, I don't make throttle bodies but we do make valves among other things. Another fwiw, local unnamed shop had to return another bad NW last week. Happens to the best I guess.

The NW needed a p1516 slave segment in my tune set to the moon, the zrperformance is on the car right now and needs no slave segment. It has maybe 3-4k miles on it, which consists of 2 round trips to Dallas from Houston. After installing it all I did was adjust the ETC scalar and add fuel to the areas that needed it. The scalar correction came second in my order of operations and tightened up my fuel trims.

I had a hiccup at one point to which I wanted to point to the china tb due to the mass amount of hate for them on here. Only concrete thing that was changed before and after the issue was the drag radials that were over an inch shorter than my front tires; it had tripped stabilitrak, random cels, even told me I had a faulty pcm. I had also suspected that my canbus wideband connection was causing issues as I occasionally have an issue with it logging the WB. Thanks to Random for talking me out of setting fire to the car. Put the Michelins back on the car, corrected my tire height and no issues since other than breaking the some bitches loose anything under 60 mph.

To each their own, simply my experience.

The china model I have is the black anodized machined billet with gold blade. (not the light version)

I’m willing to bet most that buy the china 102 don’t even need it yet. So you likely won’t see problems out of them.

You won’t see the throttle flutter problems until you are way up there in HP. Probably approaching 700 on e85. Everybody like to say that their china TB works fine at XX boost. That’s not a relevant measurement when the blower is after the TB.

I had the zzperformance TB installed on my car. It took a crap while on the dyno around 783hp. Replaced it right there with my NW 102 non boosted version and made 820hp with no more issues. Zzperformance was great and sent me out a new one ASAP. It’s for sale for $75 shipped, brand new never used. I’ll stick with what works.

At least say 99-02 so you don't have to worry about the stupid notched heads, graphite head gasket, and perimeter-bolt valve covers... LOL

I'm not hating on the Chinese (ZRPerformance) tb at all. It was an easy decision based on the price and the quality of the machine work is good in my opinion after taking it apart. The electronics side could probably be better as they use a $7 chip to drive the motor but if it works, it works. If it doesn't, .........

Unfortunately for me, the Chinese tb quit working properly and I'm not interested in continuing with a product that could leave me stranded when I least expect it. Price doesn't really matter. I was cruising when it gave out. Good thing it didn't give up next to an excited Prius owner as I would have lost that race....

I have had a couple cause issues that went away when replaced with an NW boosted 102.
What were the issues related to the china 102? Were those 102s three blade bolt design or two?

I'm interested to know if the issues were idle/cruse related or WOT specific. Perhaps the potentially skimped on motor control circuity lacks fine adjustment ability in the China 102 over the NW. Thanks for sharing, would love to know more details and to understand where the NW102 is better.

I hear that Jim. Should my China CNC 102 fail, I'll buy a NW102 (boosted). Until then, I'll treat this TB like it owes me money. I wonder what the NW102 motor and circuitry looks like compared to the ZRPerfromance 102. Down the road I may have to look into that.

For the price of a NW102, I'm a bit nervous about opening it up. If it ever acts up though, I most definitely will.

One had erratic idle and steady state that I do remember. Many might attribute that to the tune if the TB was changed at the same time as the camshaft but I knew better in this case. Another had WOT issues which I was able to band aid with P1516 thresholds similar to a non boosted NW but the owner decided to upgrade after showing the logs to him. A third flat out failed and did not work at all. I'm not sure of specifics on other issues or who exactly made the TBs, just that they were not NW or TPIS. So given that info and the lost time these issues caused we will not sell or install these TBs. All three of these were customer builds brought in for tuning only.

IMO the China 102 is probably better suited to an NA car but then again most of them will not benefit from a 102 over a 90mm so they end up here.

How long did it take to get the replacement? I've been waiting 3 weeks...
Also curious how you picked up 40whp between the two? I've noticed on the China TB it seems like the outlet isnt as big as the inlet. Anyone else notice that or is the NW102 the same?

Less than a week. I couldn’t finish tuning with a broken TB

What are the risks of aggressive threshold for P1516?

I’m of the same opinion. My China 102 bolts to my stock blower and opens and closes with no issues.

You have to love FPFQ. Dammit, here I am essentially quoting Karch. :D

"It took a shit on me and I got stuck on the side of the highway!"

"It took a shit on me, and cost me two dyno days and a week downtime!"

"It took a shit on me, and I made 40 RWHP more with the American Made product!"

"It took a shit on me, and I'm waiting for a replacement going on a month now!"

And countless more line up to buy them, because they're cheap. :D

Come on bro, take the NW102 off and slap this Ching Pong Ting Tong black magic on.

It happens to every single platform.

The 335i community is 1000x worse than here with the cheap corner cutting shit and they are about the same age.
At least you can’t buy a V2 for $6k, the barrier to entry here is still way higher. You should see some of the shit these kids say and do to these BMWs.
