That post contributed to this thread immensely. Thank you.

You have to love FPFQ. Dammit, here I am essentially quoting Karch. :D

"It took a shit on me and I got stuck on the side of the highway!"

"It took a shit on me, and cost me two dyno days and a week downtime!"

"It took a shit on me, and I made 40 RWHP more with the American Made product!"

"It took a shit on me, and I'm waiting for a replacement going on a month now!"

And countless more line up to buy them, because they're cheap. :D

Logic doesn't apply when the only metric that matters is cost.

Please, take a look at our modified throttle bodies. They are made from new GM/AC-Delco part number 12678223. Visit our technical page for more information at SolerEngineering.com or check our threads and reviews at Corvette Forum.

Thanks!

Looks like its an option for Gen V guys but doesn't really apply to LSA cars....

This would be a better section to advertise in

I wanted to let everyone know that I had found another vendor of the 102mm throttle bodies, and potentially the manufacturer that is used to OEM other products. They are called SpeedMaster, and are based out of Australia, apparently since 1979, but also have an office in Rialto, CA. I have heard the name before, but wasn't super familiar with them until recently checking out their web site. They offer the 102mm throttle body in raw aluminum or black anodized for $260. However, right now, the raw version is available for $221 as a promo. You can find their web page for throttle bodies here:
https://speedmaster79.com/air-fuel-delivery/fuel-injection/throttle-bodies

I had originally ordered a cheap $180 Chinese throttle body, because I figured it was worth trying it out for the cost, and because $650 -> $850 for a Nick Williams TB is ridiculous. However, my existing tune didn't like the Chinese TB, and I'm not sure how to adjust for it, or if it is the Chinese TB itself. So, I started looking for an alternate to the NW, and came across the SpeedMaster. I have ordered one, and will report back on how well it performs.

Look at adjusting min air tables to start.

So how much are you in so far, for the two questionable TBs versus buying the NW from the start? :D

There will be absolutely no OEM STANDARD built into anything from speed master.

They have changed names several times as they have an incredibly poor reputation here in Australia.

They are junk. No more. No less. They literally copy 1000’s of other companies products.

I’d honestly cancel your order before u waste more $$

I bought the Chinese TB for $180 (I chose a vendor who seemed to have some good reviews, but they weren't the cheapest Chinese TB). I also wanted a black TB, which was a bit more. I paid $221 for the SpeedMaster, so I am in $400 so far.

The Chinese TB didn't work out well. It was difficult to tune, and stuck open a couple times. I removed that one. I suspect it will be difficult to return, and it has been a couple months since ordering, so I'm not sure I am even going to try.

I wound up putting the stock TB back on for initial tuning, so I can get the engine broken in (I just completely rebuilt my motor... is a fully built 418 cu. in. now), and haven't had a chance to try the SpeedMaster yet.

I am taking the car to Shane Hinds for tuning in two weeks. I have ordered a Nick Williams aluminum finish for $629 from Summit Racing, and will bring it with me to the tuning session, along with the SpeedMaster. I suspect Shane will say "just use the NW, and don't mess with the SpeedMaster", but I would be curious to try out the SpeedMaster, if Shane is game.

If I wind up keeping the NW on the car, then I should be able to return the SpeedMaster. If the SpeedMaster works out, then I should be able to return the NW. Therefore, either way, I will only be out the $180 for the Chinese TB.

I did have the thought of combining the electronics and motor from the stock TB with the mechanical housing and blade from the Chinese TB to make a hybrid. Not sure if anyone has tried that, but could be an interesting option.

I just bought a slightly used NWs for $550 and avoided the hassle. But hopefully it works out for you.

Depending on the dyno and labor costs, "testing" the cheaper TBs will also limit any potential savings significantly.

I thought about trying to build a hybrid when my ZZP left me stranded but decided it wouldn't be worth the hassle. I had a good time putting it in the press and smashing it as flat as a pancake though.

I fucking despise the facebook crowd. There are a handful of people that are ignorant as fuck.

I posted that I was installing the 108mm and some shit head said, "some people think bigger is better"

I had a long response written that went like this, "nice passive aggressive post dick head. If you want to call me a dumb ass do it, but back it up with fact that the 108 isn't worth it....ect".

I didn't post it because I knew he didn't have experience with anything larger than a 102mm....if not 90mm. I deleted my thread and moved on. Sadly, a lot of threads that can be good reads get shit on by people only looking to start an argument....on the internet....ugh.

I choose to post here instead.

Ok, that was 11 pages of useless reading.

We all understand, (at least reasonable thinking people and engineers) - that buying a branded product is better than something made in a communist country. But hey, 90% of goods are sourced there. As somebody said a TB is just a flap with a motor.

I live in Easter Europe and a boosted version of NW 102mm would cost me around 1500$ to the door. For that money I'd better improvise.

Basically, I was looking if somebody would pop open a boosted 102 NW TB and expose the type of motor it has. I can source a similar motor from Europe take the control board from my current OEM GM LS7 90mm TB and save myself at least 1200$?! Why not?!

I will buy a TB from Aliexpress for 120$ same black anodized machined piece.
I would change all the screws on it for 10-15$ for aircraft grade SS and use loctite on the threads.

A servo or a motor would be around 100$ at max. High quality german product. I design and build ISTAR type of UAVs so I know a little about electric motors and servos.

And voila - around 300$ vs 1500$. If somebody helps me with the internals of the NW boosted version - I'll post results and feedback on my built.

No offence to NW of American built products - not trying to steal your piece of bread.

It's cool - you basically just said you can invest enough time, research and money to take a piece of shit and turn it into something worth having while trying to avoid paying the equivalent of 300% in taxes. After some effort, a little luck, and $4-500 you can make your own - which is totally awesome. Thankfully here in the USA we haven't been converted into a full-scale socialist state [yet], and we can just buy one for the same money without having to engineer our own servos, except it comes in "Nick Williams" packaging. So no offense to your European overlords, VAT taxes or anything - American built products are not trying to replace good old fashioned ingenuity in the face of governmental oppression - in fact, you sound like the kind of guy we'd like to have on our side. Can you speak rudimentary Spanish and hike a few miles across our southern border, by chance?

Idk what does socialism has to do with common sense, at least for me. :) I mean, if you're sitting on a pile of money - I'm very happy for that. I'm an engineer and this is a fairly easy thing for me to do.

And believe me, its not about luck - its about the knowledge and skill. If everybody would support you're thoughts on that point - I guess this hole 11 page thing wouldn't be here. Trying to find "ways" and entertain myself with this 1-hour project doesn't make me less of a car enthusiast or converts me into a beggar, I guess.

I've seen you posting good amount of material, including American built parts that turned out to be not more than pieces of junk that didn't work.

We are a community here - so why money saving and something involving some fabrication work other than just "place in cart" action - is bringing up so much drama? :D

I have my English, Spanish, Romanian and Russian all intact. No need to climb the fence - I have a VISA lol.

Lets sum things - if anyone is interested, let me know. If not - I'll still try it. Worst case scenario - I'll grab a huge suitcase, hop on the plane - fill it with performance parts and smuggle them through customs. lol

Anything to get more POWEERR!!!

I think you may have read too much into it. Or maybe I read too little.

I took his comment to mean if he were in your shoes, it absolutely makes sense to do what you’re trying to accomplish while avoiding spending $1500 for a throttle body that should cost less than half of that.

The socialism digs were directed at the concept of VAT of other countries, certainly not at you personally. Then he made a dig at our own country by implying you’re the exact kind of person we would like to “sneak across the border” poking a little fun at our current immigration brouhaha.

For $600-800 I think the savings for the effort may not justify the effort for a lot of us. $1500 makes that decision a lot easier to try and find an alternative.

Totally agree.

I would blend in eventually and get to understand all the sarcasm. Sorry random84 if I misunderstood you.

Yeah, things suck right now. So hard to get american performance parts. But I love American V8 soo much. Cant compare those to any BMW, Porsche or anything... those are boring and slow. But they are trying to keep up, so I need to be ready for the next season. lol
