Just checked mine and found no cracks.

Just know the weld can often times be weaker due to the base metals faster heat dispersion than steel.
So very true...but it won't be weaker than a crack. Those things do only one thing, get bigger.

Would this, possibly be. . . Your last mod..lol
Hell no! Just getting started really. Here are some pics of the welds.

Years back, we had similar issues with the AMG cars.

Once we bored and stroked those engines to 6.2 Liters, they overwhelmed that rear suspension. When you planted your right foot down on the throttle, on the freeway, while the steering wheel was held to the left to pass someone, the car would move right. . .'Sometimes'.

So we had to redo those suspensions, as those cars (The Hammer & The Slammer) were very dangerous to drive, until we those modifications were performed.

Unfortunately for Cadillac, this problem does exist, even with the stock car, having the stock HP & Torque output. Having the issues I stated above with my two AMG's, as soon as I felt this with my stock CTS-V, I knew not to throttle the car heavily while changing lanes, or when attempting pass someone quickly.

I was but a young kid when I read about the Hammer in Car&Driver. Do you actually own it?

-info on the legendary Mercedes - AMG Hammer-

There were eight 1987 - 1988 AMG Hammers built in the USA.
Four of them were four doors, four were two doors.

Four had 6.0 L engines, and four had 6.2 L engines.
I owned a four-door, all black, 6.2 L.

I sold it, and purchased what they called a Slammer,
which was the 2-Door SL Mercedes sports car.

For that upgrade, they simply pulled the engine, which had the four valve heads, which they prototyped on the AMG Hammer, and bored and stroked it to the above engine volumes.

The AMG Hammer was of course very novel, but it drove like a school bus.
Could not make quick turns..lol

I purchased both of them from Andy Cohen, of AMG, in Beverly Hills California. Beverly Hills Motorsports was one, of only two original AMG outlets in the here in the USA.

The other one was in Chicago, which is where they made the conversions of the E-300 Series Mercedes, to the AMG Hammer. Those two businesses promoted AMG, early on, here in the United States.

Andy Cohen being in Los Angeles, was the person who got those AMG's to be used on the TV series Miami Vice. That of course made AMG famous!

Andy had a lot to do with branding AMG here in the USA.

I know, because I was consulting for a Video / Film Post Production house at that time, just about two miles from Andy. This caused me to live in Beverly Hills for about 2-Weeks out of each month back then. Since I was so close to him, I would visit him every so often in order to catch up on anything new that was happening.

After Mercedes purchased AMG, it was never the same in my opinion. I am not going to speak for Andy, but I thought the manner in which AMG sold that brand to Mercedes, was not fair, as Andy did all of the work, and to my knowledge received none of the funds for that work.

Andy did a real good job promoting the AMG Hammer. But he did the job so well that the department of transportation came in, and said; you can’t do this without our permission.

They stated they needed two cars to put through crash tests, and of course Andy just laughed at them, as those cars sold new for $185,000. And that was back in the 1980s… Lol

So after only eight of them being built and sold here in the USA, the Hammer was discontinued. They then moved on to sell the AMG SL Slammer.

In my opinion, the AMG Slammer, was a much better driving car, then was the AMG Hammer.

And the AMG Hammer had the most horrible looking rims you’ve ever seen in your life!!!

Sounds like you've had quite the life RD! In 1988, I was driving an 80 Monza.....with med shit-brown metallic paint and an anemic 4 banger that had well under 100hp.....so pretty much the same car as you.😆

Pretty cool story. [emoji41]

My 2013 is cracked too. Not all the way through and only on the rear of the passenger side control arm. Modulus of elasticity on cast aluminum is not something to be played with. The sandwich design on these control arms to hold alignment is what the cause is. Remember this is fabricated from extrusions and castings. The cast portion is where we are getting cracks. This should be a recall! I am going to get all my friends to come over and put their cars on my lift and see how many of them have the same issue. GM should be ashamed of theirselves for putting out something with this type of design flaw. I do not track my car and drive pretty easy other than acceleration and braking. Material should have been thicker and the pocket machining should have had a radius on the area where it cracked. sharp edges on castings lead to cracks. In the aircraft industry, where I used to work, we used to stop drill cracks to prevent this type of cracking. I am getting mine welded this week. I checked all the other areas for the lower control arms on both sides and no other cracks are present. Anyone out there with cracks in other areas other than the rear, right side, lower control arm? I suppose I cannot complain about them sticking a Z06 drivetrain into a V6 car and not think things are going to break...

The one in my 11 coupe it's the left rear that is cracked. They used one I ordered on ebay is cracked on the right side rear . That's the reason why I started this post GM has to be held accountable for this how can all our cars be having the same issue and nobody said anything about it.

I was scrolling back through this thread, and reread this post.

Your comment regarding your Shit-Brown 1980 Monza, reminded me of my oldest sons first car.

My wife and I knew he would not keep his first car up, as he was not a car person, as was my second son, and he was still in High School.

So a woman had her Vega towed to our engine rebuilding facility.

She could not afford the new engine she needed, so I purchased the vehicle from her.

We rebuilt the engine, safety checked it, and gave it to our first son.
And yes, those Vega 4-Cylinder Engines were also very anemic..lol

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, if any of you remember those old Vegas, they tended to rust out.
One of the first things that rusted out was the floor pan.

So my son called it the "Barney Mobile".
He still jokes about it with me today..lol

This is like the 2004 ZO6 with the cracked gas tank that leaked on the ground. Made the gas tank out of ABS instead of polypropylene and they cracked and leaked. There was a ten year good will warranty. They refused to call it a recall. I would think if the car leaks gas and can catch on fire it should be a recall.

Yes, it was a rust-attractant for sure, which also doubled as a female repellant unfortunately! So, being gainfully employed as an electrical apprentice at the time, I was soon able to buy an 8 month old 87 Mustang 5.0 with 5000 miles and a 5 speed and ditch that Monza (Vega) heap.

Life improved quickly after that....😉

GM also ‘badge-engineered" a Pontiac version called the “Aster”.
Imagine, if you will, the Aster version of a Vega wagon with the full “Woody Wagon” vinyl sticker +metal “wood” moldings.
Yes, it really was atrocious.
two years later, I had a Sister-in-Law who bought a brand new “Bobcat Squire” Woody wagon.
It was an agonizing time to be a car guy!
