Anyone sub dexcool for G12?

So.. I'm cleaning up the intercooler brick today, and the dexcool that came out is definitally pink like the Audi's G12.

The prestone stuff I have from the G8 is orange.

My hyper-anal syndroum is telling me 'you need more pink stuff so they color's don't mix'

I know from experience that G12 and Dexcool are chemically nearly identical, most of the difference being PH balance and different inhibitors (which don't act as a Plasticizer and cause class action suits..). That Audi/cheap VW people often went with Dexcool in problem cars versus paying $15/quart for a bottle of G12++

Anyone use this as a top-off or substitution before though?

The few DIY tests I've seen performed with regard to galvanic corrosion and thermal transfer properties always place G12 ahead of anything else.

Just a little apprehensive using it for the inter cooler system I suppose. Everything I know says it'll be fine. Someone just tell me to go do it.

Thanks for the replies.

It does get below freezing sometimes here which is why I haven't done WW in the past.

I went up to Napa and pickedup a bottle of Pentofrost ZF (G12) for $18.

It litterally says it's compatible with coolant from 'various manufaturer's including VW/Audi/Skoda GM and Opel'

so it's going in.

Might flush both systems with G12++ come christmas time (it's $50/gallon for ++)

Qatar, all you need is distiller water and water wetter. You don't need to worry about freezing.

lol bro you missed my point i was asking what is the pink fluid the came from oem on our cars
It's pink dyed dexcool.

The OTS prestone and Texaco/Zerex stuff is dyed Orange. Maybe that's because the original deathcool was orange and older car's need coolant. I don't know, pink dexcool has been around since 06. I suspect the OEM stuff is pink because it's a similar OAT formulation to G12(it's nearly identical as I said). GM, VW, Dodge and some Japanese imports probably get it from the same supplier's at this point.

anti-freeze is a corrosion and freeze/boil over inhibitor. Water has much better thermal transfer properties. Ideally, you want to run as low a coolant/water ratio as possible where you've got enough protection against corrosion and freeze/boilover.
thanks bro i just ordered the roush coolant expansion ( my tuner recommend it ) to go with the new HX
looks like distilled water and water wetter is the way to go
Water Wetter is basically coolant without the ethylene glycol and an agent that inhibits the formation of bubbles on hot surfaces within the brick/heat exchanger, If you live in a climate where it never reaches 0C or 32F, go with WW. If you do live somewhere like that... you might want to mix some glycol coolant in there.

It presents certain advantages to a closed circuit non-thermostat controlled cooling system like the heat-exchanger. In a regular thermostat controlled system however, it does nothing. You will never run cooler than the T-stat is set to open to.

Yes, your cooling will be even better if you dilute the dexcool. Just use distiiled water.
After your HX swap, fill the whole HX system with distilled water and one bottle of water wetter.

You use the whole bottle? I read the directions and it was taking about measurements in cap fulls, i only used half the bottle, maybe i should dump some more in

You might want to look at Norcal's box. Much larger volume and, if you ever go to the track, you can add ice for between run cool downs. I have one and I love it because it works like its supposed to. Holds over 1.5 gallon if using it just as a reservoir.

Little known fun fact!!!!!! Ok some information I should not tell you guys, but I am confident. I have a side business with the wife, we bake cupcakes for weddings and parties etc. I am the baker (the chemist in me and I am a damn good cook) and one of my secret ingredients to making an outstanding cupcake is antifreeze. Yep you heard me Antifreeze. Propylene Glycol to be EXACT before you all try it with the wrong kind and kill someone. It has a flavor that is incredible and it makes the cake moist as hell ( I hate the word moist uggghh). OK, sorry to digress. Back to your regular scheduled programming.
