Well,

After having a blower go bad, I decided to do the upgrades I've been meaning to do. So I debated my iptions and decided not to cheap out on parts or quality since this IS my daily driver and I will be going WOT 5-10 times a week.

Before mods:

9.55 Pulley
W4M Intake
W4M tune

After:

KDI Proted Blower/Snout
KDI Heat Exchanger
LS9 Cam
2.85 Upper
PAC racing springs
ID 850 Injectors
NGK TR6 Plugs

So while I am waiting on my Heat Exchanger and cam gear, I decided to begin throwing on the new blower, springs, and injectors. The springs took some time because of me being careful (my first job this big). After A valve dropped into the block, I managed to get it out somehow. The valves were done so then I began on the spark plugs. SOOO much easier changing these out while the blower is out. Got that out of the way and then onto the blower. Everything went fine and so now it was time to start the car. To check for leaks before firing it up i turned the key but didnt ignite. Sure enough, an injector was leaking fuel. Kept trying to get it to fit snug but no good. I ended up changing out one of the O-rings out to the stocker and that fixed the leak. So I fired up the car and after a little blue smoke (hadnt started the car in over a month) the black smoke came. It went away after a couple of seconds but I expected it so didnt freak out. I took it for a 1/2 mile spin to test driveability and it rode like crap. Driveable but crappy. I got on the revs while in neutral and all you can see is black smoke because it is running rich. I parked the car for the moment until i get the cam installed. I should be getting that done this week so I will post more pics. After that, off to the tuner :) Any suggestions/tips as I prepare for the cam swap?

you CAN NOT drive the car with 98# injectors with stock data. You have to put the injector data in. Plugs are probably toast now. Get it to the tuner and get the data in. I promise it will run great

FFFFFFFFFF!!!! I mean, I literally drove around the lot...That will kill the plugs? I still havent gotten the injector data from Damon. If he sents it, have him send it in a zip file so its not corrupted. I had problems with files coming from the states before thru UK servers.

Shit you shoul have told me I'll send now.

Like I mentioned, don't even drive the car or you will pour black smoke out the back and foul the plugs. Your are dumping massive amounts of fuel into those cylinders as you have not scaled the injector data back. You are basically calling for 2X fuel what the cars needs!

Glad you got the install done. Let's get the tables corrected.

I got it. Thanks! Hopefully I get the HX and cam gear soon. Almost feel like tuning and then save the cam upgrade for later since the weather is getting cold and wont be needing a HX as much.

#11 ·
Yea you did mention that but a couple of gear heads at the shop were insisting ill be ok. Lesson learned.

#17 ·
"Gear head" is usually synonymous with "dumb shit".

So when is the car in open loop? Idle? Which means I can starting car but not overfuel as long as it remains idle?
Open loop is the worst possible scenario because then nothing is trying to lean the system back out. The car runs open loop until it warms up. Closed loop includes idle.

Hope you didn't wash the rings out. That's a LOT of extra fuel to be dumping.

#12 ·
Your talking ear double the fuel with the stock table.

Data has been sent

#13 ·
Damn even I told you. Come on now :)

Thanks....I try to do SOME things right

I'm gonna put the car on a dyno..any guesses what it will put down? 6 speed manual so I'll guess 625 :)

#21 ·
Depends on your tuner and fuel quality but north of 600 easy. You will see a big bump in torque through the curve.

#19 ·
I think I'm somewhere north of 600 but I'll go dyno sometime soon.

I was going about 65 on the street the other day then hit it.
My 7 yr old asked what was that noise...and said it sounded like the tires were melting.

Wheelspin. She was right

What a Bitch! I ended up pulling the HX and Radiator last night. Today Ill continue by pulling the water pump and inserting the new cam. People keep telling me I have to take the rockers off and pull the valves up? Anything tricky I have to do to get the cam to slide out and in other than careful insertion? I saw a video online about using two sticks. This is the tricky part so I could use some help.

#24 ·
just loosen the rockers till thers no load on the lifters then crank the motor so the cam pushes all the lifters up into the retainer buckets..

#25 ·
Got it. Does anyone use the stick technique (as shown in the video link from W4M 8:20) to keep the lifters from falling back down? On another note. I got a spot reserved for my car to be displayed at the London Motor Museum this Sunday. There was a vote thing going on. I didnt get the most votes but the organizer has seen my car in person and wants it to be displayed anyways. After that, were going to cruise down to the ACE CAFE for a cars and coffee meet. Here was a link to the voting. Excuse the the ricer cars....the British youths love their F&F drift theme.

Wow...its not an easy job Ill tell ya. Got done about 5 hours ago installing my upgrades. Hard part about it is that the car is untuned and I cant test its abilities until I do so :(. No tuner in a 150 mile radius that can do my car in the next week so that sucks too. I had a scare when I finished putting the balancer on it was wobbling and making noises. I took everything out and tightened the shit out of all the screws around it. Problem fixed! The car stalls when cold if your not careful and is a little jerky but once warm, its basically like stock. IDK if its the fact that i havent driven it in forever but the exhaust seems MUCH throatier and louder. Car takes about 5 seconds to start everytime as well. Im not sure whats causing that but I hope its minor or in the tune. The "gear heads" showed up again and pissed me off this time. They were adamant about the fact that im using the wrong cam sprocket. I just told them to F off and let me work on the damn car before betting 2 cases of cider the car turns on. Sure enough, it did!

Whne you put in a cam you HAVE to retune for idle and start. Motor needs a ton more air at startup then your tuner will need to adjust the running airflow.

#30 ·
Got it...im on the feather foot right now. Looking forward to getting it tuned.

#31 ·
I feel your pain, my ls9/id850/9.1 pulley install was done last week. I just have stock tune now with injector scaling and it drives fine. With the wb, it hits 14.7 at idle and light cruise easily. No issues starting the car, I actually checked the cam part number after because it ran like stock.

I'm hoping to see close to 600, but more would be super. Keith is tuning mine next saturday.

#32 ·
Well I have the LS9 cam too..or I think so? Keith sent it to me so IDK it was used lol

#33 ·
If its the one he had in his car, I think it was ls9.

I have been driving mine all week and we are driving 4 hours to Keith's next week, and it's given no issues other than if it tries to go into boost, it sputters and bucks a little.

Got it... not gonna push it at all. I got a car show tomorrow in London so ill see how it drives on the way there. Hope you see 600s too man, then you'd have a justification for your avatar pic :p
