Factory radio Mute wire

Any audiophiles out there know if my 2012 has a factory mute wire. This may not be very easy to figure out due to how this radio works with all the data connections, etc. I am trying to see if it is possible to wire a connection from my radar detector which is designed to mute a car stereo when the detector sounds. Is this possible in the V? The radar detector is a Valentine 1 and I think the detector auxiliary mute wire goes to ground when activated.

The V's systems are fairly tightly integrated, specific to the Caddy, and I suspect lack this feature since it's not needed by anything in the car. You can mute the audio by pushing the handsfree button on the steering wheel, but that function is most definitely "soft", handled by the car's firmware and not a dedicated wire that activates a circuit that you could tap in to.

I bet there's a way to command mute over the OBD but I couldn't begin to tell you how to take advantage of that information... Think your SOL, but I could be wrong (in which case, I could use the info myself).

Easy Peasy. lol.

All of the steering wheel control switches work on a different resistance. The hands free/mute button is the first on the circuit, so it actually doesn't even go through a resistor. That means it's a simple switch that has 12v positive on one side and the other side goes straight to the BCM. In the BCM connector X1, pin 17, a purple wire, is the 12v+ to the steering wheel switches. Also in X1, pin 6, a dark blue wire, is the signal return from the switches. All you have to do to mimick the mute or hands free switch is connect pin 17 and pin 6 with another momentary switch. In your case, what you'd need is a transistor or a small relay with the coil triggered by the ground signal from your detector.

Piece of cake huh? As electrical mods to these cars go, it is actually pretty easy. If that makes no sense or you need more info, just let me know.

Does this guy know his shit or what? No wonder he built an entire car in a small garage with his bare hands, a hammer, and some wire cutters.

Awesome gmtech! Thanks for the info. The only other question I guess I have at this point is would the mute time be program based or would the system instantly mute and unmute as soon as the connection was established and removed? Curious if there is any delay. Thanks so,much for the Intel.

I think the mute output on the radar detector remains asserted (on) for as long as the detector sees radar. The effect on the Mute button may be problematic. At least, on my 14, the button mutes the stereo if you push it quick. If you hold it for a second or two, it invokes the voice response system. If the detector keeps the mute output "on" as long as it's detecting radar, you may not be able to get this to work the way you want. You're going to need an additional circuit (I'd call it an "edge triggered one shot" circuit).

That's what I was afraid of. Car is in storage for at least another ten weeks so I have some time to try to learn more about this.

There are bypass kits to bypass the park which will allow video in motion and will also let you input addresses into the Nav unit while moving. IIRC one is the Costal tec Lockpick, and the other is made by PAC Audio.
