How/why when i crack the fill plug before i drain do i always hear a release of pressure? Is it maybe a 1 way breather with a check valve? Gets hot and vents out but when its cold causes a vacuum?

So you didn't have to drop anything?

I noticed I had gear oil on the floor pan dripping on my exhaust and pressure when I checked oil level.
I'm used to the old school sintered bronze breathers. I never had an issue with them. May see if I can get one to fit.

How are you keeping the hose in the hole?

I didn't have to drop anything... But it was a massive pain in the ass.

Hose goes around the nipple, held on by a hose clamp.

Thanks. I missed the nipple part.

I looked at this because it is near the top. I think there is a service kit for the base CTS that puts a hose on the vent. Might work on a V too. I will see if I can get a PN

I had my diff replaced by the dealer last year. It was bad when I bought the car. They replaced it with a new one. I haven't had any issues with it leaking or pressure. Back in my wheeling days, we used to add longer hoses and just put a regular cheap breather on it. One from advanced or auto zone in the "tuner" section will work fine. I use one on my catch can on my Cummins and it just hangs down under the truck.
