Getting ready to do a full detail job on my Black CTS V. First question is are these polished aluminum wheels. I know picture is bad buts its all I had on my computer. I am going to completely remove the wheels and tires so I can clean all the Caliper and brakes as well as the backside of rims. I would like do some swirl removal on my rims. I plan on using a Random Orbital Buffer "Griots" and some swirl remover and polish. Anybody have any tips or words of caution or advice on rims. Am I going to hurt them by doing this? Not sure if these are cleared or just polished aluminum or what. I know they arent chrome. They just have these fine hazy swirls all over them. I'm not that good at carwrenching, so please tell me:(🙏

There are few places that can fix polished aluminum wheels. Mostly because in order to fill imperfections they use weld, that's impossible to polish without being visible. I have seen people fix minor imperfections on a wheel lathe. That said if they're that far gone it's cheaper and easier to have them refinished in black or an alloy color. There is a place by me that claims to be able to refinish polished but I have yet to see any they've done.

This GM coating is pretty tough and won't yield any tangible results even using a wool pad and aggressive compounds. There are some professional detailers here that haven't had much success removing the swirls. Mine are at a point where I'm thinking about getting aftermarket wheels because of the general fading of the finish after 11 years.
Good luck, but take solace in the fact that the body paint can be redeemed better than it was when new.

It’s a way more expensive option but there is a company called The Wheel Exchange that will PVD coat them for $1k. Look them up on eBay. You’ll also save yourself $300 off the shipping if you’re within driving distance.
