Tweaking the throttle mapping for better response

Has anyone played around with the throttle mapping in HPTuners? I was reading another thread about ported throttle bodies improving response, and it seems the consensus is that our factory mapping is terrible. I agree. It is extremely sluggish and seems to be catered to the target Cadillac demographic of 60+ males that would typically purchase an STS. Of course, a ported or aftermarket throttle body will improve throttle response, but programming is also to blame. The factory settings don't specify any throttle opening until the pedal is depressed 15%. When the pedal is depressed 34%, the throttle is only opened 5%.

I played around with the mapping, and drastic changes will disable Stabilitrak and put the car into Reduced Power Mode. So I started making incremental changes and the PCM was more accepting. So far, I've been able to roughly double the throttle opening from 9-20% pedal depression. The car feels lighter and more responsive, especially during highway cruising. I'm going to continue tweaking to see how much more I can get away with until the PCM intervenes, and I'll share my throttle table when I'm done in case anyone wants to use it.

Has anyone else attempted to tweak this table or figure out a way to work around the PCM intervention?

Jesse did and abandoned the effort. One of the reasons being that cruise control was a bit obnoxious. You can find his thread on the other site. It was labeled something - I found some cool torque tables...

I searched for potential dangers before editing the tables, and I found this post on the HPTuners board by an HPTuners employee. The question was posted regarding an '08 Vette. He seemed to suggest it was safe, and users on there said that if they went too far the car would just go into limp mode. If you know otherwise, I'll stop where I'm at. I was able to do another revision with even more aggressive mapping and no problems. The car already feels much more responsive so I won't push my luck any further. I haven't tried cruise control yet, though.

the disclaimer is there because on older vehicles (eg. some LS1's) if you changed this table too much it could trigger permanent failure modes due to the TAC module.

I have not heard of this problem with newer ECM's 2006+ but the warning still stands. The other reason for such a warning is to indicate to people that this table is critical for operation of the vehicle and to think seriously before modifying it. For example setting it all to 100% "because it looked like a torque management table" is not a good idea....
