Matt,

It sounds like I'd love to get the 2.5. Now here are my questions.... How would it be optimally used? With headers or without? With ported LSA heads or without?

It seems like headers will only get me a few more ponies, but what about slightly worked heads? I obviously know heads will help, but how much (roughly)? And I'll never touch the exhaust, so I won't bother asking about that.

Thanks, and sorry for the huge question.

I was wondering the same thing. Now I have too wait till later today to hear the answer(shit:~)

I grew up in Magnolia Park in the fifties/sixties. 926 Pass ave. what great place to grow in. No gangs, no drugs, no graffiti. Cool cars, Bobs Big Boy, Griffith Park, cruising Hollywood Blvd and horse back riding at the Pickwick Stables, street racing:~)
Have you ever met Tommy Ivo? I think he still lives there. He was my brothers school mate and friend, Burroughs High. Graduated in 1956.
I should have asked if you know who Tommy Ivo is? I'm sure there are some older guy's that know.

Pain meds kicked in. I will close now.

I recommend headers with the 2.5 cam. Heads are not required but will always help to make more power across the entire rpm range.

If you do not want headers for whatever reason I recommend either stage 1 or stage 2.

Got my delux 2.0 cam kit today with Johnson lifters, it's going in the car asap, excited to get it in and get it back on the road.

I didn't go with the 2.5 on Matts recommendation, I don't plan on headers so this will be with stock manifolds thru corsa with primary cat deletes.

I guess that you'll be up and running by the spring then! Congrats

What would you recommend for a 10:1 434 with ported TFS heads, Johnson lifters, YT rockers, stock convertor and all the normal supporting mods?

thanks for the post, I'm gonna be in the market for a cam after my wedding at the end of next month, this broke down the differences for me.

Thanks for all the help before and after the sale Matt! Just like all the others you've sold to, I appreciate the support!

Hopefully when it cools off, this stg 2.5 can get me into the 9's

Matt is there any difference in durability between the Comp and Cam Motion grinds?

It depends on what core but with good oil I havent had issues with any of the three core types. You can still have an issue with an 8620 core if you dont take care of it. The cam in my own car is actually a Comp 5150 core.

Got it. I'm running Redline 5W30 on mine.

I have the 54-000-11 where that that fall among the 3 cores you offer?

I guess spending another $400 to go with a better core isn't the best way to spend the $

I understand and respect your decision on not wanting to give out cam specs untill after payment, but in most cases people want to know what they are buying before payment. Non the less will give credit where it's due, you've got your homework done.

In the case of these cams you are buying a proven grind. That works for most since you get a spec sheet when it shows up.

Some people are ok with that, others want to know what they are buying before payment.
I would argue that if you could make a determination of which cam to buy based upon spec vs explaining your use for the car to me, that you would just design it yourself based upon desired valve events. If that is not the case then there is really only one reason to want specs up front. Besides that specs at .050" only tell part of the story unless you are using them to try and find the lobes in a catalog, which in this case you couldn't. The 4 standard LSA staged cams I offer are in a lot of cars tuned both by myself and other shops across the country, so far I haven't had anyone tell me they don't work as advertised.

With that said, I do understand the desire to know what you are purchasing before you buy, even if you don't really know what it means. There are options out there that meet those needs if my policies do not.
