From personal experience I have a 2016 and the shudder was really bad I took it in only 200 miles and honestly my car has felt 80-90% better after the flush it takes a few hundred miles to clean inside I guess with the new oil but I can say it’s helped it a lot. My dealer told me if it comes back then they’ll swap the torque converter after.

 

I have a 2018 V3 with 1,500 miles on it and I know how to test to see if it has the shudder and so far, it doesn't have it yet. My 2017 V3 had it, but that car is long gone. I just installed the AFM module this morning and it won't switch back and forth from V4 and V8, so it won't shudder when switching from V4 to V8 as the AFM module doesn't allow it to go into V4 mode. Maybe all you need is the AFM module.

 

How do you test for it? any specific steps, speed, ..etc?

 

Sorry to hear about your shudder. I had it on my ‘16. Now on my ‘18 with about 3.3K in, still no shudder on mine..fingers crossed. Following this post on potential resolution in case I end up being in the same boat. Sick color combo btw.

 

I have a 2016 and I’ve gotten the flush done twice. The shuttering is slowly coming back.

That sucks on 18, it might be another issue because GM engineers were pretty sure it was the silicon they used in the MY16 that they fixed later. I would take it to the dealer and let them diagnose it.

 

I just had the triple flush on my 2016. 18k miles. It resolved my shudder. Hopefully the shudder won’t come back.

 

I just get new transmissions every couple thousand miles. No shudder since the original one

Single flush and filter done on mine. 80% of the shudder is gone. I think one more flush may do it...

 

I had it on my 16 ATS V. Flushed and it has not come back. GM will flush first then replace the TC if it comes back. We see a lot of issues with the Escalades.

 

Does the flush fix the issue on the Escalades?

 

I had the flush, then it was tuned with the AFM turned off and its not come back and im at 21K miles now.

 

+1 on success with (knock on wood) no shutter after flush and deleting stupid as absolute hell 4 cyl mode. They won't admit it but I think the 4 cyl mode has something significant to do with it.

 

Wait, are you saying that there is a setting to turn off the V4 Cylinder Deactivation? I have a 17 and haven’t found it in CUE settings...

 

..they tried to fix with flushing, but only the TQ change helped on my 2016 V

 

I had it on my 17 at 7k miles and had the dealer do triple flush now at 17k and been perfect. Hoping it doesn't come back.

The TSB outlines 2016-2017 V3s, but dealers won't do it on 2018 vehicles as GM's TSB doesn't cover it. According to GM, the 2018 V3 is not affected by the transmission shudder.

 

This TSB has been updated numerous times and the latest updated Dec 14, 2017 includes all 2018 GM Vehicles. It states all A8 through EOP - End of Production. The camaro form talks about this more in detail and the shudder returning after the flush.

 

What is the fluid flush supposedly doing to correct the issue?

 

GM engineers claims that the root cause of the issue was low quality silicon that was used and ended up dissolved and causing slippage or something, flush will clean this up, AFAIK it is not mechanical issue.

 

I'm using the Range AFM on my '16 with 19K miles and no problems yet. My question is regarding the TSB, is it applicable once you're out of warranty?

 

can someone post the most current TSB on the A8 shudder?

 

Mine is doing it too with 7000 miles. Local dealer has ‘never heard of the issue’.

There was an update to the procedure in June. The triple flush has been replaced with a single flush. I had this done a few days ago. The shudder is gone for now.

Update on mine. The shudder returned after a few thousand miles. I took it back to Sewell to service it again. They replaced the converter & filled it with synthetic fluid. The trans works perfectly now.

I was told the root cause was the fluid allowed too much slip in the TC and it's about a 50/50 chance of it returning after the triple flush to get all the fluid out. Dealer did the flush procedure and the shudder was still there. Just got a new TC with no issues, but I haven't put too many miles on it yet.

 

In my case - steady cruise with slight incline is best. Any speed between 35-80. You can feel it in the car as a ‘washboard’ type vibration - but also you can watch the tach and see it rise about 100-200 rpm each time.

My car tends to shutter on certain up shifts as well. Typically 2-3 after a hard right turn (God knows why)

Mine isn’t really related to the V4/V8 switch FWIW.
