Hello All,

As the title states, I'm looking to purchase an LSA brick, reinforced (preferred) or not.
I'm getting prepared for a first round of mods and would like to avoid as much downtime as possible.

I'm located in Canada.

Thanks

You can buy them new already reinforced from dms(dedicated Motorsports) unless you want to take a chance on a used one.

Lingenfelter shows the reinforced brick for $349. They have a $400 core charge for some reason but as long as you send them a good core, the price seems decent.

You could also buy the reinforcement plates and have a shop weld them on for you which shouldn't take more than a day.

Unfortunately with exchange and shipping, it adds up. I'm trying not to spend 1k on the brick alone
Gotcha, I just new that dms had them for like 550$ new

I'm weighing both these options as well. GMPartsDirect site listed the brick on sale for $350ish (not reinforced) but also listed the shipping at $250.

Curious. Do you have any idea how much of the shipping cost is due to crossing the border?

The interesting thing about the brick on the site is that it's 'on sale' 350ish instead of 540ish. However I think the shipping cost is exagerated, likely to get some of that 'sale price' back.

Not to mention, there will be a 13% tax on the purchase costs, plus whatever the shipping company charges for 'brokerage fees'.

Being in Canada doesn't help at all. Best I found was $600cdn shipped then you'd have to get it reinforced yourself.

The only problem here is if it's anything like the gmpartsdirect site, it's not actually in stock and you get notified it's on backorder with no eta.

I've asked a friend at a gm dealer and he advised he can't even order it anymore.

I've started to look for the plates to order and find a local welder local that will weld aluminum. I'm hoping that the current brick is in good shape when I open the lid.

Oddly enough I bought a lid/brick from a person that removed it from his car a year ago.
It was fine on his vehicle, so I installed without pressure testing it.

After on the vehicle, something told me to check it, before adding water so I plugged 1 port with my thump & blew in the other.
I quickly felt the pressure drop. It is an internal leak in the core with no visible damage.
The leak is bad enough that it would have quickly done engine damage.
All we can figure is there was a speck of something corrosive in there that acted on the aluminum over time.

It is typically about $40-$50 for the plates & $100 +/- for the welding labor.

At this point, if the factory bricks are hard to come by or possibly going into obsolescence, I figured why not start with new while I can still get one
To buy a used one, then spend $150 modifying it to potentially have it go bad didn't seem like a good deal.
The Aftermarket units are $12-1400, so not appealing either.
