it may have gotten wet, the 3rd brake light can leak and may have shorted it out

Those switches have been known to go bad. Not a big deal. And Rob is right about the third brelight leaking on these cars. Take it apart and follow the repair guidelines.

According to GMPartsDirect.com the switch p/n number is 25777730. Also, the wires have been known - well known - to break where they flex opening/closing the trunk lid. This I would check first.

check the wires at the trunk hinge. Mine were broken. Bought switch but returned it.
