Switching drag radials - what size?

My current drag radials were good for a few years with my build on pump gas (93). 60's in the low 1.6's and 1/4 in 10.9's. With an extra 80 rwhp from E85 I have had issues getting that good a 60 and corresponding 1/4 is a little slower. Also, I have 18x10.5 Darkstar wheels I got from Tony and I need to cable tie the emergency brake cable away to keep it from rubbing.and driving to and from the track a good bump will cause the tire to rub. I'm switching to a 17x10 wheel and changing from MT ET Street S/s to ET Street R.

Current tire is a 305/35R18 which has a diameter of 26.6 and tread width of 11.2. The 17" Street R sizes I'm looking at are:
275/40R17 diameter 26.1 and tread width 10.2
305/45R17 diameter 28.1 and tread width 10.5
If I stayed with the 18" wheel the size would 305/45R18 which has a diameter of 29" and I think it would be a fit issue. No good 18" choices with those wheels.

Stock rear tire diameter is 26.85". Current drag radial is very close so not much difference in effective rear gear ratio. the 275/40 would cause a small increase in rear gear ratio which would cause more wheel spin with the power increase. I'm thinking the 305/45 with a larger diameter will lower the effective rear gear ratio and be a little easier to control wheel spin. Any thoughts?

FYI, dyno results - 618.5 on 93 and 702.71 on E85 (from a barrel after gas tank drained)

You want the 305/45/17 ET street R. The 275 adds to much "ratio". The 305 should just barely rub on a big bump. I would get the slightest amount of rubber on the inside of the drivers side fender lip, but it never did any damage to the tire.

What are the specs (offset & width) for wheels that will work with the 305/45/17 Street R tires?
Thank you for your help.

For a sedan 17x10 is the right size wheel. How much power do you have? In the stratosphere you may want a beadlock. Just go to Mont Motorsports V2 Wheels and check out the options. Can't go smaller than a 17" wheel and clear the stock brakes.

We have both Weld and Forgestar for these cars in 17 and 18” sizes..
I've heard chatter that there's a drag radial setup on a 19" wheel that works well enough on the street... Anybody have experience with that? Car is going on the dyno today (hopefully) and I'm probably looking at around 800whp on my normal every day tune...I know I'm going to have to swap to a DR to be able to use ANY of that power, and I'd like to not have to buy new wheels just yet.

I run 305/35-19 drag radials full time

Sedan or coupe? Which tire are you running?

17" Welds with 305/40/17 MT Rs work fantastic on my 2010 Sedan.

Sedan. Running Nitto NT05R.
Need to be careful when comparing the same size tire from different companies, the Nittos run smaller than both Toyo and M/T's. If there is no chance of running into rain then the ET Street R is a fantastic tire.

M&H run smaller too.

The 305/45/17 MT is the go to tire for most with a higher power V2 not running a 15” conversion

I ordered these wheels from speedway motors for my sedan back in March. They fit fine, no rubbing at stock ride height with MT 305/45/17
