Hey all,

Just bought a coupe over the weekend. First time every driving one, but I put just under 1000 miles on it getting it back to my house, so I think I have a vague familiarity with it now.

The problem is this: The suspension feels like it's stuck in sport mode. I.E. rides .. rough. When I put in Tour, I notice EXACTLY ZERO difference. The dash tells me it changed, but there is no change in feel what so ever.

The shocks are visually OK and the electronics are indicating that they are happy. There are no CELs or any indication that anything is wrong. Just a rugged ride.

Any thoughts? Please use small words and short sentences.. I'm a low IQ kinda guy and this is my first GM product.. in... uh.. in a very very very very long time!

Really appreciate the guidance!

apologies.. it's a 11 coupe

Are you Sure they didn't put coil overs on the car? I've seen a lot of guys talking about it..

PITCHAS!! We need to see whatcha GOT, man!
do you know if the care has been modded?
Post a bunch of pics, all around plus underhood and we can point out things that appear to have beemn changed from stock.
take a good look at the shocks being especially attentive to oil on them, indicating leakage.

Open your hood and look at the shocks to see if there is a connector attached to the top of them.

You can also look at them and search for the GM part number sticker on them as well.

Once you know if they are stock or not you can start the detective work.

I don't recall a connector on the top of the shock. They're Mag Ride, there's an electromagnetic coil wrapped around the middle of the shock with a connector there at the coil, and there are suspension angle sensors attached to each control arm that don't connect to the shock at all.

If the suspension angle sensors were bad, there'd be a DIC code. And the Mag Ride coils need to be energized to make them stiffer, if they weren't getting power the car would be in Tour all the time. And also, the BCM will detect if a Mag Ride coil has failed.

Seems most likely to me that the car has Eibach springs and it's just stiffer. That, or Mag Ride was deleted and the car's got coil overs. Last on my list, the ride may be changing and the OP just hasn't had enough experience with the car to be able to tell. I know sometimes I forget to put my Coupe in Sport mode and don't notice for a while that I'd forgotten. And I've owned my Coupe since 2014.

There's no way I know of for the Mag Ride to fail in a way that makes it permanently stuck in "Sport" mode. Especially if the DIC is saying the mode changed.

OK I’m truly confused…..
The stock Mag Ride shocks do not employ a coil around the middle of the shock with a connector in the middle of shock.
What are you describing? An aftermarket ‘mag ride’ ?

Maybe I'm the one who's confused. Will have to go look under my car after the snow melts...
ah.... another CTSV Owner living in the depths of the artic tundra waiting for the snow to melt.... I have had my 2012 CTSV Sedan for 2 weeks now and can't wait to start modding it out. Gotta say though.... I LOVE the whip! Some dude in a RAM Diesel tried to race me last night on my way home.... gotta say though, I got a slow start and only beat him by 1 car length between lights! Fun, Fun, Fun!

Thanks for the hints so far! Sorry it took me a while to get back. I have been traveling.

Currently the car is trapped behing the THIRTY FIVE INCHES OF SNOW that's on the outside of my garage door.

I DID buy the car sight unseen and never even contemplated that it could have aftermarket suspension! Never.. crossed.. my.. mind.. I'll take a look in a bit. I just look for wetness and saw none, I wasn't smaht enough to .. you know.. read.

Though there are no codes.. so..

Wheels on mine are stock.

The car does have some mods. It's got a Meth injection. Lingenfelter pully and green belt and a polished supercharger snout, though I haven't cracked it open to see. As far as I know, that's all.

Took a peek at the shock tops. they aren't blue, they are grey, but appear to be stock and there is a wiring harness that goes to them.

Also - this may be a valueless statement, but, I notice that if I am to sit on the fender, I get - MAX - 1/4" of droop. Basically the suspension is rock solid. Normal?

I am not going to argue with Rockesled in that maybe I just don't notice. But id also expect the different to be... less subtle. That's a LOT of engineering to have the difference be "well.. uhh.. maybe it changed". Ya know?
