studs vs bolts on boost

Putting a lsa on my truck and have got mixed opinions on this subject. I figured asking people that deal with boost on a daily basis might be a go to. Running a lsa with a 2.55 upper pulley and stock balancer I was thinking about 9 to 10 pounds of boost. This is also on e85. If I were NA gm bolts easy decision, but when do you deem studs need to be used? I would consider this a mild boosted application.

I’m pushing 16, as high as 17 psi, on GM bolts.

Studs are better at distributing the load and putting more of it across the length of the stud but bolts can suffice at your levels.

Makes me feel better. I guess if you were planning or are a person that tears down your engine a lot then you would want studs all day since they can be used over again unlike gm bolts.
True. Costs more and a bit more install effort.

awesome thanks for the insight
I generally do studs on boosted builds where the heads come off but that is low boost so maybe split the diff with ARP bolts.

I installed ARP bolts vs studs, studs are better, unfortunately during COVID there were supply issues so I went with bolts. Bolts are fine at my power level. ARP kit #134-3610 is fit for LSA TTY replacement.

134-3610 is the PN for 04+ LS , but not LSA or LS9. Just like the Studs there is an LSA specific PN.

Bolts for LSA are available in three different PNs.

ARP 2000
8740 12 pt
8740 Hex

I installed the 8740 hex kit, slightly stronger than stock and reusable. Over 7k now on my B15 and holding up well.

B15 is a different block and PN as well

Think the fit is same, I did need to purchase additional 45mm bolts due to the additional pattern.

There are various 6 bolt part numbers
