Check your battery first!

Often a dying battery (or loose cable connections) can trigger weird shit. One member had the same problem and his ground cable was loose.

Also worth checking fuses - cheaper than a tow.

So I've got the battery up to 100% checked all the grounds, found a few missing fuses an a few bad ones replaced those. Still having the issue.

Unless you own, or know someone with an official GM Tech-II scanner, then yes, you have to go to a dealership to get it fixed.

Also, everyone... it's theft "Deterrent". Not "detorant" or "Detterant". :)
Noted and corrected haha

I would try the procedure first before doing a TECH II session.
I'm trying it now but the theft light isn't going off I've been waiting with the key on for a minute.
Maybe I'm doing the wrong procedure?

As a side note... Thank You, so much, for correcting the title of the thread. It was driving my OCD off the rails.
Haha no problem I appreciate you guys helping me out!

The internet is your friend.

That was the only procedure I could find, but then again I didn't search all night either.

Depending on where you live, you might get a tech to come out with a TECH II or find someone with one.

Good luck.

Yes I've been looking and looking and asking on all the forums lol. You guys have been the most help out of all of it.

I have made progress tho. I believe I've gotten the theft mode reset. I found a different procedure. And the car will turn over now.
And I'm not sure exactly how I fixed it tbh.
I did a few things at the same time.

The car now reads the vin from the new computer however, now I'm having a issue with my hptunners not being able to read my tune 🤦

I've tried different cables, I've tried rewriting the vin "won't work" tried putting the old computer in, still reads the new vin. The scanner mode works and I have a few codes, but the editor won't read.

Incase anyone else runs into this problem here what I did to fix it

1. realized I was blowing fuses for my aem wideband and I've been trying to wire up my chiller with no luck. So I just completely disconnected the wiring from the fuse box for these 2 things.

2. Fully charged battery to 100%

3. Got in the car, shut the door. Turn key to on "do not crank it"
then open the driver door. All other doors and trunk closed.
KEEP driver's door open!

4. Pull the ecm fuse and plug it back in 3 or 4 times in a row waiting a few seconds in-between each time.

5. Go back in car shut the door turn the key off

6. Turn the key on "not cranking" and wait for it to cycle through all the codes.

For me the theft mode was gone and the car now reads the vin of the new computer.

Thank you to all the guys helping me out!
