Anyone seen this happen, machinist in said it’s a common problem.

Max 2000miles, 600rwhp e85.

Max 2000miles, 600rwhp e85.
This happens from excessive heat, usually associated with self detonation.
You have two dissimilar metals, which expand at different rates as heat increases.

As the heat increases, the aluminum block expands at a faster rate than does the liner.
Without support from the block, the liner splits as is shown in your picture.

Is that your block Dan?
Also what cylinder is it?

Nah not mine Bruce

A mate of mine. SBE crate lsa. Cam and pulleys are the only mods on e85. Boost is very conservative.

Rings were 17 thou top 28 thou bottom

Bearings looked good.

Maybe simply a bad tune?

Was he the kind of guy to "get it on" before the engine was fully up to temp?

Top ring gap is a little tight for the 12-15psi he was probably making.

Nah he did look after it. I believe it’s factory GM specs.
