Been tryin to figure out our CTSVs intermittent power steering issue. Every so often the power steering will go out and the “service power steering” message comes up. Weird thing is it’s hit or miss, some days I get power steering in full no issues, some days it cuts out pulling out my driveway. And sometimes when it goes out it’ll come back without any issue.
been searching through old post but figured it was worth a shot seeing if anyone had any solutions

buddy of ours ran the code and said it needed to be serviced at the caddy dealership. Hoping that’s not the case

Also check your voltage. This has also been attributed to the alternator going out and causing the service power steering message to pop up. Are you getting a bunch of whine from the pump? Or just the service light?

voltage Is solid as far as the dash reading. There’s occasionally a whine you can hear while driving every so often. Not crazy loud or anything but definitely some kind of whine. Don’t see any leaks and has full fluid

I’m dealing with the exact same thing right now. Probably going to replace the pump and the alternator just to be sure.

Keep the DIC set to voltage and check to see what it is when this happens. When this happened to me a couple years ago, it was the alternator and was intermittent.

Not sure about the module. I’m trying to monitor voltage when it happens to narrow it down to be sure.

When I had some drag in the wheel and groaning noise coming from my power steering on my V1 I had the fluid replaced with Royal Purple Max EZ synthetic fluid. Immediately cleared up the problems and didn't return for as long as I owned the car. It made a believer out of me and now I use it in my V2.

Yes I have an air raid. I’ll check the ground bolt again but it was clean and tight on last inspection. I get a pretty loud whine from my pump which is one of the reasons I’m wondering it the pump is finally giving up the ghost since my car has decently high mileage.

A wine is def indicative of a failing pump, or low fluid.

Lucas power steering stop leak. Every whine I have ever experienced was cleared up immediately by following instructions. Someone on this forum will tell me it will ruin the whole thing by clogging the system up with artificial filler material. That has not been my experience. It will not damage the system in any way. The most mileage after addition is on a 99 Mustang. It was whining when I bought it at a discount. It quit immediately, not 1 day or a week or a month. Immediatley. The car ran another 50,000 miles before my daughter totaled it. The problem never repeated.

Here is what Lucas says. Lucas, 12OZ, Power Steering Stop Leak, Removes Hard Spots and Stops Most Leaks Or Your Money Back! This Formula Is A Blend Of Special Oils and Petroleum Extracted Additives, Contains No Solvents and Is An Excellent Preventative Maintenance Product Of New Units.

I use this in my Tacoma (steering rack leaks common esp with larger tires), have also used in my mom's 3.2 TL, fixed both. I generally don't use "stop leak" stuff, but for power steering it's an exception I'm willing to make and have not heard about any major issues from using it. That said, I am not sure that's the issue OP is having.
