I just bought my 2012 CTS V last week and I was installing a Airaid intake today and when I went to reconnect the battery I noticed a shock laying in the cavity between the trunk carpet and the outside of the car on the bare metal. It still has the mag ride sensor connected to it (both sides). I was wondering what is the purpose or what is going on and why the shocks are laying there on both sides with connectors still connected for the mag ride? Did they change out to something different and just left the connectors on the old ones so it wouldn't throw a code or what?

I would disconnect any connectors, bag and stow, tune out the mag ride system if in fact you have non-mag-ride after markets currently installed, and remove them from the vehicle. Not sure if tuning out the mag system will affect the traction control system?

Someone replaced the shocks with cheaper non-mags and then went all Sanford and Son in your trunk.
This. They couldn't afford MagRide replacements so they bought the version of the Shock that wasn't MagRide and installed them. Then, to prevent the car from throwing codes because the MagRide was disconnected, they threw the old no good Shocks in the trunk and left the coils on those Shocks wired up.

Could have done it with a high wattage resistor instead of using the whole Shock. But when you're going "ghetto" you might as well go all-in.

Do you have a link to a write up on how to go the resistor way?

I’d just replace with the oem mag rides. From rock auto they aren’t to bad. Around 500$ for the rears (pair) and about an hour of your time if your handy with a wrench. I personally wouldn’t start cobbling your car all up unless your going the coil over route

It was like Greg signed up under an alter ego, and just laid one out there for us to play with.
