Rain Sensing Wipers Issue

753 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  MrHappy
So my rain sensing wipers weren't working. If I pushed on the plastic trim around the windscreen at where the rearview mirror attaches it would swipe the wipers once. Dealer inspected and replaced a module and I tried once with a glass of water, seemed to work fine. Fast forward a few weeks and I'm out in the first rain since getting it back, rain sensing wipers don't work again. Push on the plastic trim, same thing, a single swipe of the wipers but nothing else. Is there a fuse or sensitivity setting or something else that could be causing this? I have no film, tint or treatment on the windshield that could be interfering.

Maybe and wiring issue and not the module.

The dealer ripped you off IMO. If you told them "when I push here it works" and their solution was to replace a module someplace, their problem solving logic was "pick the thing that is the least amount of work for us but the highest cost to the customer". Go back and tell them they didn't fix it, and remind them that you told them it was an intermittent connection at the rearview mirror, and that you paid for a repair that was not effective and you expect them to make it right.

The way Rain Sense works, it shoots some IR light through the window glass, and it looks for changes in how that light is reflected back to the sensor by water on the glass. The sensor is typically located at the rearview mirror so you're likely pushing on it when you push on the spot that makes it work again. The fix may be as simple as removing the sensor and cleaning the sensor and glass that the sensor is looking through. If that doesn't do it, it's likely the connector/wiring harness to the sensor or the sensor itself.

Seconded. You purchased a solution, and the issue has not been solved.
I wrestled with a similar issues for over a year.

I had my windshield replaced shortly after I bought from the previous owner and Satellite had installed non-OEM glass. Because of this, my rain sense never operated properly. I had Satellite come out to diagnose and troubleshoot the issue many, many, MANY times. They tried everything from removing the rain sense unit and cleaning the glass to replacing the unit altogether. They probably went through 3 brand new units before I convinced them to just replace the glass with OEM. Once I got the new glass, everything was perfect.

Check your glass.

Had rain sense issues too. Based on some suggestions here, I removed the module and the wipers defaulted to traditional delay settings and now I’m happy
Didn't happen to take any pics did you? I'd certainly be down to give that a shot. I don't care about rain sensing per se but more the delay action vs just on or off.

Just popped off the cover and pulled module out.
