So I have found a 2012 CTS-V coup in pearl white with the Recaro option and a new Corsa exhaust system. It has 85000 kms on it and the automatic transmission. I have been a licensed automotive heavy truck technician for 35 years and really liking this car. It is a one owner car an older guy (like me) that passed away, all maintenance and repairs were done at the Cadillac dealer, and money was not a concern. He has multiple newer super cars and exotic cars and this was the most inexpensive car in his stable, he loved driving this one the most!???!!
Finding a coup here in Ontario Canada is rare, the current owner wanted one when they came out new and none of the dealers could get one so he bought it from a dealer in Texas and brought it to Canada.
So what do I look for and what kind of expected/common issues that I may encounter?
Thank you in advance,
Derek

If it hasn't had its blower replaced, listen for a rattling sound at idle. The cars have a known issue with the isolator (basically a shock absorber for the blower's drive shaft) failing. GM was replacing them for free, even on cars out of warranty. But I don't know if they still are doing it (they did my 14 Coupe's blower at around 40K miles a few years ago). There is a "solid isolator" replacement you can buy and install yourself, that doesn't appear to have any downside (so why GM chose the design they did has always been unclear to me).

The MagRide shocks can leak.

Really, that's about it. My Coupe is going on 8 years old and other than a rear shock and the blower rattle, all the car has needed is fluids and tires.

When I saw your name, I immediately thought of our former Leafs captain but I don't think he went on to being a mechanic after retiring. lol
Other than what RocketSled mentioned, these cars are pretty solid. Start changing out all of the fluids to be sure, especially the GM diff fluid which must have the friction modifier already premixed in the bottle.

Where in Ontario are you?

The other "famous Sittler" is my cousin we grew up in the same town St Jacobs, I live a few mins away from there in St Clements. I have seen the thing for the blower issue which I can do. I was looking for a Corvette but pricing is a little inflated on the used ones and I did own a 08 convertible a while back. I purchased a used one owner SRX for my wife a few years back and it has been bullet proof and it's a great SUV to drive (little underpowered) but I'm not driving it so thats OK. I think I am going to buy this coup it the owner will drop the price a little.

Came from a '12 Vette to a '10 CTS V. Vette was a little more fun to drive (to me), but much less "refined" feeling than V. Wife loves the caddy compared to the Corvette, for what that's worth.

If you smell fuel when it is parked it could have a leaking fuel module top hat, common for the plastic 90 elbow to crack. Some of the sub frames have cracks where the lower control arms bolt onto, also the lower control arm alignment bolts can slide from cornering too hard, usually people add Nordlock washers to the bolts. Some people experience the ultra view sunroof leaking into the cabin due to clogged drain tubes. A lot of them have loud differentials but doesn’t seem to be a big issue, just annoying. There are probably a lot more common issue but I would take them as they come.

Congratulations on your new car. One thing you can expect from it is pure joy while driving it.

While we're at it, I remember watching #27 score six plus four helpers sometime in the wayback machine. Had to be the mid to late 70's.
