The autos have an advantage through 1st and 2nd...3rd and so on is about even as far as torque multiplication goes

yes im in

I know "no" optional gears are available for our 2009-2014 CTS V's and the 2012-2014 Camaro ZL1's, other than the factory 3.73 and 3.23 ratios. I have called countless outlets, manufacturers, speed shops, etc. Two weeks ago I was introduced to John Hale (Nostalgia Funny Car owner and driver) when he was in Bakersfield for the March Meet at Famoso. We talked cars and I mentioned I wanted some 4.10 gears for my CTS V. We got to talking and he said he had sources for custom parts. Well he called me back yesterday and said there was NO ONE making optional gears for our 9.9" rear ends. He also spoke to US Gear (1 of only 3 manufacturers making ring and pinions in the US) and they said a minimum order would be 100 sets, plus they would need a stock (say 3.73) ring and pinion for preliminary measurements. I will be posting this over on Camaro 5 for the ZL1 owners. Hopefully there will be enough interest (we need 100) to get this done. The main advantage of the automatic over our stick shift cars is the overall ratio in 1st gear (auto: 4.03 X 3.23=13.02 overall, manual 2.66 X 3.73= 9.92 overall) and the 4.10's would go a long way to help the disadvantage. If you are interested in these 4.10's please respond here or send me a PM and I will keep a list. If we get anywhere near the 100 we need then I will front the $30,000 needed to order the 100 (@ estimated $300 per set ) and we will run the entire ordering process through John Hales Muscle Car Shop in Dallas.

In addition I will be rebuilding my TR6060 with optional gears to also help. I now have (2.66 , 1.78, 1.30, 1.00,.80,.63) and I will be going to: (3.02, 2.10, 1.43, 1.00, .74, .50) so I will end up with better cruising gas mileage too! 1st gear will end up at 12.38 overall, a difference I'm sure I will notice! 2nd and 3rd won't be too bad either! Stock for stock I think I will be much quicker. At least I'll have more fun!
count me in

So far the response has not been strong enough to warrant the expense. The Camaro ZL1 response has been slow too. I still am asking various people. I talked to Strange Engineering, who just came out with an new aluminum carrier with a 9.75 ring gear for the Camaro, independent suspension. They have no plans for a unit for the CTS V's or ZL1's.

I think most people are shying away from this since we all have traction issues as is. The thought of gearing it just sounds like even less traction.

Haha I know damnit...but seriously, you're gonna have traction issues with 3.73#. 4.10s, 3.23s even on street tires with 600+ hp

3300 for a gear ratio change in the tranny sounds decent if the 300 dollar rear end gearing doesn't exist. Lol

I agree that the 4.10 on street tires would be useless. But at the track a shorter first couple gears would be nice!

Yep, some more torque multiplying would for sure help these heavy manual cars get moving and probably even take some strain off the clutch.

I can just tell that the car doesnt want to come out of the hole any faster with the stock clutch and this gearing setup though...not really sure if its power or the clutch just wont hold lol

My first couple gears are useless on the street now!

Im damn sure not spending 3300 dollars for a gear change ever though so maybe my best option would be to try a 25.7 inch tire.

Another thing to consider is swapping to 4.10s would help the over all feel of the car....with the extra torque multiplication it would actually make the car feel lighter and would seem like less effort to get the car moving.

Even if you dont care about 1/4 mile ETs, you are still getting more power multiplication everywhere when you put your foot down, this isnt something that is track only, it helps the car pull in every gear.

For the cost it would actually be a really good bang for the buck performance mod if we could get them for 300 bucks...the cost of an air intake and 10% more torque multiplication!

Only con I can see is cruising RPM on the highway pops up about 200 RPM...

I get a free pass then, because my wife's purse is so cluttered, you'd never be able to find them.

I was never able to get enough response for making the 4.10's. I couldn't find a ring and gear manufacture that was willing to make them. I had my 6-speed redone by RPM and it is ready to be installed with my ERL 416 (with Greg Good ported TF 255's) soon. My new ratios are 3.01, 2.10, 1.46 in 1st through 3rd.....should be interesting, and I feel the car will feel much lighter. Car should be running within a week or two, and I will report.
