I have a bad popping noise coming from the rear end when I turn left or right. The best way I can describe it is a loud pop/clunk and feels like I ran over something. It only does it when I turn. Nothing happens when I'm going straight.

I figure it's either the diff or 1 or both axles. How do I accurately diagnose the problem? I have 123k miles on original diff.

Sounds like you need a colonoscopy
Wouldn't be the first time I heard that!

I believe it could be your struts as well. Mine sounded so bad just rolling out of my drive way which is 300yds of concrete. My V is on jackstands and I’m doing the work myself. NOT difficult, but time consuming. I think GM thinks they’re made out of Gold. New pads, rotors are great, and now I’m ordering Polyurethane bushings for my front upper control arms. I’ve read several articles that confirm the struts were bad and leaked prematurely. Bumps and especially when it’s COLD it was like listening to an old cowboy Food Wagon on the trail.

I know you said you have aftermarket axels but I'd look into the CV joints as the problem. If the noise was strut/shock or differential problems you would be able to replicate the symptoms while driving in a straight line as well. Of course I'm not a professional mechanic so YMMV.
