I got a little bored today with my company giving us Juneteenth off and I had no plans. Decided to starting polishing the front upper strut bar. Used my small orbital up to (220/400) grit and everything past that was wet sanding with (1000/3000).

Just finished buffing using my large orbital with Megiures ultra cut compound to get out the fine scratches from the 3000 grit sanding. I’ll have to come back to it later with a much gentler polish to finish it off. It’s been about two hours in all and my arms are silly putty.

Nice job! I think the ends would look good painted black.

200/400 grit seems a bit rough, but clearly turned out great! I’d like to see the before pics myself. Are the V3 strut bars made of aluminum like V2’s, anyone know? Lucilles strut bar could use a little love itself.

The ends are really rough/porous. Probably should have tried sanding them down a bit like you suggested @MrSurly

I’ll probably spray a couple more coats to see if the engine paint will smooth it out.
I think it looks great as is!

I probably could have started with 400 but started lower after some initial sanding looked like it would have been harder to remove material. The grain in the raw aluminum is harder to sand down than you’d expect. Here is a pic from the underside of the bar that shows an un-sanded section, I didn’t really do anything underneath the bar since no one will see it.
