Is anyone interested in a phenolic supercharger lid spacer? It would be the same as the other lid spacers but made out of laminated cotton or paper phenolic sheet. This would have the added benefit of greatly reducing heat transfer to the supercharger lid and intercooler brick from the supercharger and engine.

The material is normally very expensive. But, I am getting some phenolic sheet for damn near free. So I can make a small batch for cheap. I'm thinking $300 plus shipping. The bad news is they don't have 5/8" thickness.....

SOOO what that means is I can make 1/2" or 3/4" spacers. The material is machineable. 1/2" is not thick enough to do methanol or nitrous. 3/4" is more than enough material for either. But you will have to remove, trim, or possibly re-shape your hood liner. Additionally, I would only recommend nitrous spray bars through phenolic as I'm not sure how reliable 8 NPT threads will be for methanol.

PM or post up if you are interested.

I did the play doh test with the hood closed. The angled portion of the lid at the front has 11/16" clearance to the insulation material under the hood. This stuff can be trimmed or possibly taken out and smashed to make clearance. There is plenty of clearance to the hood.

Has anyone truly done a back to back dyno comparison for what a lid spacer actually give as a benefit power wise? I may be in for it if its the 1/2" size as I don't want to have to cut hood liner at all.

What about the engine torquing (rotating) under load? Will that cause additional interference?
Yes it will. The 5/8" spacers get some black marks from the underside of the hood liner. The 3/4" would touch the liner. So there has to be something done to create the extra clearance. There is another 3/8" or so from the bottom of the liner to the metal of the hood.

I'll be a 3/4" guinea pig.

This seems like a great idea, my buddy has it on his SC Eaton Civic and the SC is only warm to the touch after driving. I don't see it adding HP, but helping with heat soak on increasing IAT's.

Tabio,

Perhaps an alternative method of adding the meth nozzles is to epoxy in some inserts? Just a thought.
That's a good idea, but might get expensive. Since the material is advertised as being machineable, I'm fairly certain it can be threaded successfully. I'm just not 100% certain so I wont sell it that way. I'm comfortable with the nitrous spray bars because they provide a "double seal" if you will.

True. Perhaps just epoxy in the standard npt fittings, making sure the epoxy has some heat capacity and fuel compatibility.

Remember to use stainless due to the methanol (for others who may not know, methanol is not compatible with copper/copper based alloys).

I might be up for a phenolic spacer also, I used one on my first GN (between plenum & intake man.) way back when in '90! Later on my 2nd GN I used a 1/2" RJC spacer! They both seemed to work well.
I would like to see a comparison of the 2 sizes (1/2 vs. 3/4) :)

I may be interested in a 1/2" one as I don't plan on running meth or spray, just curious about details, what are the other ones people offered 5/8"?
