Has anyone changed this diverter. During my engine rebuild I may have pinched the rubber gasket that goes around it when you install in the block. Every time I get on it hard I get some oil smoke from under the hood and I have tracked it to this area. Is it easier to pull the engine or drop the tranny to check and /or change?

I agree. Rear cover itself. It holds the diverter in place and would have to fail for you to see a leak from the diverter.

What makes you think it is the barbell?

It could be the corner of the rear main cover where it meets with the oil pan. Did you put rtv on the corners when you had the engine rebuilt?

Cover can be removed if you pull the trans and flywheel/flex plate.

No I did not put etc on the corners

It is more how the rear cover/block/oil pan area meets up where the RTV is needed. If it is leaking exactly from this area this might be the problem. I’m sure hard acceleration could make it weep oil.
