Hello - I recently purchased a 2014 CTSV with 110,000 miles. I also purchased a warranty - which the people I bought it from flat out lied to me about and said the warranty started right away. I called the warranty company a week later and was informed that the warranty was only good after I had put 1000 miles on the car. In the mean time the car was making a humming noise and skipping under heavy acceleration. Took it into the dealer and they completed a rear end differential replacement (recall that had never been done on this car) replaced the spark plugs and a couple coil packs. Got it back and it is running much better. Before I took it to the dealer it was making is making this really strange humming noise and I noticed the fan was staying on when I turned the car off. The dealership told me the rear end replacement should fix the humming and that and that it was throwing a few misfire codes which is why they replaced the spark plugs and coil packs. The humming and fan staying on is still there along with the clicking or sound of a valve opening or closing or something. I am going to have to drive about another 800 miles I guess before I can take it in for anything to be covered under warranty. No check engine light is on and like I said the car seems to perform fine. Could this be a failing intercooler pump? When I turn the car off you can hear whatever is turning off, winding down. I love this car, it is the car I have always wanted but I hope I have not bought something that is going to require huge repairs. I financed the car and cannot afford any costly expenses that will be $1000's of dollars.

On a real hot day or if I’m in doing a lot of city driving my fan will stay on for a few minutes after shutdown. The humming noise you hear could be the IC pump circulating fluid after shutdown to keep things cool for a bit. I have never checked to see if my pump still runs for a little after shutdown. A member here has told me before that a tune would be needed for these functions to happen, but as far as I know my car is stock with no tune.

If the motor is hot enough, the fan will continue to run to circulate air through the engine compartment until the motor isn't hot enough. I live at the top of a 750' high hill, and if I flog the car going up the hill, the fan will always continue to run after I shut the car off. Normal, expected behavior. Though if it happens a lot with normal driving in normal weather, I'd have the cooling system flushed, maybe the thermostat replaced.

The rear end get recalled on all of our cars? First time I’ve heard of this.
Yes there is a rear end differential recall on the 2014 CTSVs, Problems with them seizing up or something due to the torque created with the V's.

I am really thinking it might be the intercooler pump. It is like a hum in the engine and there is also a sound like a pump to water or like a waste gate or something sticking, like a clanging noise once in awhile. I heard there is a way to check the intercooler pump by pulling the fuse that goes to it. If the humming stops then you know it's the intercooler pump. I would just take it in but I have to wait till I put 1000 miles on it for the warranty to kick in. I hope the problem is not damaging anything. The car is nor running hot according to the temp gauges and no check engine light is on.

This is not for the 2 Gen CTS-V's only cars with 3.6L Twin Turbo.

I am guessing its early production 2015 cars that were made in 2014 but for the 2015 3rd gen CTS's, & of course 1st year Gen 3's issues now getting recalled 5 years later.
