Need help on 2016 CTSV losing timing

775 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Lt1z
2016 cadillac ctsv 36,000 miles. Car from a dead stop will run up to speeds (50-70) no problem shift perfectly. Once you are cruising down the road and get on the gas car spits and sputters. My buddy hooked his computer to it to see what’s going on. When the car is running and you hit the gas the timing drops to less than 5 degrees. Just bought the car not to long ago. Has headers, no cats, and air intake. Dealership reflashed the car so not sure what tune it may have had. No engine lights. Does seem like the does lag a little bit.

Needs a tune.

Dealer can physically flash to a stock tune but a stock tune isn’t going to work well with headers and no cats. You will/should get a CEL with that setup.

Would that mess with the timing during shifting? Sorry. New to all of this. My buddy is just wondering that the timing drops to 5 or lower on timing that it could be something more. Thanks!
Oftentimes the timing is reduced during shifts to protect the transmission from damage due to extreme torque loads during the shift.

It is highly recommended you have someone with a lot of experience with 6L90/6L80 transmissions and performance vehicles.

If you are near Melbourne, FL, perhaps look online for Cal Hartline.

The money you spend will be well worth it.

Yeah he tuned my 68’ f100 w/supercharged coyote. Not sure he does LT4’s finding out from my buddy how uses him all the time. Do you of any others that do? Not looking for crazy horsepower but want it right. Thanks for your help!
Stock tune is pulling timing due to mods
So stock tune would pull the timing that low? Slowly learning more about these cars everyday. Lol. Do you do remote tuning? Thanks

sounds like your tune is the issue...the car will pull a ton of timing during the shifts, that is normal torque management at work to keep the transmission alive.
