So I've had this slave installed for 8-9k miles and had to pull the trans back out for some warranty work, in the mean time I'm having the McLoed clutch rebuilt even though it has the same miles as the slave..
So do I swap in (another) new GM slave or... go with it. Im sick to death of pulling this trans out..
In the back of my head I know the one I have works but it has been used, and I always fear getting a new part that is defective.. agh..

Just use good clean fluid and reuse the slave. They're very simple, only contamination or debris will kill them.

There a specific fluid that anyone's proven to be better than the next for clutch hydraulics?

I just go for a quality synthetic DOT4 and try to change it frequently.

For the clutch cylinder duty use dot-whatever. It won’t matter; the particular task of clutch duty (unlike brake duty) is so low-impact that nothing special is needed. It won’t ever see high temps, will never boil, heat cycling will be so low key that there virtually no risk of contamination.
Dot 3 for me. But again, doesn’t matter; best to use whatever you are going to run in the brake system just to avoid confusion.
