Hi folks,

Quick question: can you tell me the location of the navigation antenna (part number 15226445)?

My nav screen sometimes flickers when the car is at idle (only, never when car is in motion). I've sprayed contact cleaner on the connector to the head unit but that didn't help, so I'm going to try just replacing the nav antenna to see if that cures the problem.

But before I tear the car apart, if anyone can tell me where the antenna is located that would be greatly appreciated!

thanks,
Tom

Replacing the antenna isn't going to do anything except drain your bank account. If the display is flickering, and only the display is flickering (no audio issues) the problem is with the display. Odds are there's a connector in there you can remove from a socket, clean, and reinstall and that might fix your problem. But the GPS antenna? Might as well change a tire and expect it to make a difference to the head unit display. It won't. Make a difference.

If there are audio issues associated with the flickering, then the problem is probably either a power connection to the HU or an issue with the power regulator circuitry inside the HU.

The symptoms are weird and puzzling. The flickering only occurs when the nav is up on the screen, never when the audio is displayed. It only happens when the car is at idle at a red light or stop sign. And it doesn't happen 100% of the time, maybe only 50%. As I mentioned, I cleaned the connection to the head unit but the problem persists. And no, there are no audio issues, just the video on the nav screen.

P.S. I'm assuming it's a cable issue, hence my question about the location of the nav antenna. The antenna/cable assembly runs ~$40, so I thought I'd try replacing the assembly to cure the problem whether it's caused by the antenna itself or the cable.

it’s buried up in the dash, to properly remove it with its sheet metal bracket you’d have to remove the dash assembly, you could possibly try to disconnect old one and get the new one as far into that area as you can but you’d have to remove the antenna from the bracket and use double sided tape or something
