Lets talk about it... top speed

2009-2013 guys, as we all know there is 200mph on the dash. What is the realistic possibility of hitting that with minor mods? Fastest I've been in mine so far was 154 and I felt like it still had a lot more in it.

Commenting to follow. I work on a decommissioned runway and get to play once in a while. I had mine at 140 the other day and at about 130ish it was starting to REALLY fight the aero. Interestingly I also popped the driver side bumper clips, which leads me to the following statement -

I AM missing the under engine tray and it was my first time at those speeds in it so I had some concerns about things going wrong.. but.. the claimed 191 top speed felt like a pipe dream to me. I, 100% hope I'm wrong.

185 on a Mexican road so flat that you could see the curvature of the Earth. No bullshit. Only thing I didn't do was to check to see if cruise control would set at that speed. Car was bone stock.

Reason I mention that is because of a speeding ticket I got out of roughly 10 years ago. Officer asked why I was going 99 and my reply was "because the cruise won't set over 100". Midnight in the middle of nowhere with no vehicles within miles except for him.

Had a bit more in it - hit a rabbit and decided to call it good. 😁

That was 6 years ago. Haven't felt the need to do it again but have been 160ish several times since. In Mexico of course.

Automatic has a lower top speed than a manual. I forget the exact numbers.

Speed is such a unique drug in many ways but so similar to every other as well. The more you travel at a certain speed the slower it feels. I've spent enough time on a track with 2 wheels at triple digit speeds that 100 seems like 55 but once you reach that magic number where your brain tells you that you are going too fast you shut it down pretty quickly.

I've been 180ish on a motorcycle but never over about 150 in a car. I feel like I would run out of balls before this car would run out of go so if anyone ever gets there please report back. I don't think ill ever be the one to answer this question but it doesnt mean I'm not curious.

Am I the only one that missed this? I feel a CTSV meet at a decommissioned runway is in order. ;)

Quick story.
Last November my wife and I went out to dinner.
I had brought the V home from work where I store it was in the 60's temperature wise.
My grandson had a Doctors appt. so he took the V.

Pulls out of the Doctors and the red lite behind him is a Challenger flashing his lites.
Guy pulls up behind him motioning to get on the highway.
So the boy does, goes opposite of home since it's like a 3 or 4 mile straight road.

Challenger pulls up at 50 and jumps him.
says he got a 4 car jump cause the V was spinning the tires.

Once the V hooked it was lites out for the Dodge.
Didn't see him in the mirror he looks down figured he was doing around 150.

Nope he says he was doing 185.
I was out of town on business the next day and he calls me.
Asked him how my car ran and he tells me the story.
What he doesn't realize is that if caught they would take his license forever and my car.

But I always told him if he tells me the truth I can't get mad at him.

What worried me more was I always safety inspect my car Tires, brakes, suspension etc.
And I hadn't done that since it was almost Winter and I inspect in the spring.

When it was stock at 120,000 miles I let out of it at 167. It had more, in fact I think I was still in fifth and it was pulling, but I was running out of clear road.

221 mph for me. Probably had legs for around 235 since she was climbing fast but let off.

I've hit 160+ on the twinspan across Lake Pontchartrain without any effort. There was plenty of pull left, but I was running out of road (and gas) really, really fast.
Raced highly modded Golf R on a stretch of Mexican concrete, had him by 1-2 cars when he let off we were both going over 160. Like everyone stated the car feels very stable at speed. I have done lower mph top speed runs in other cars and didn’t feel nearly as planted or stable as the V
Been 175 in my last V, 185 in my ZR1 and 202 in the GTR. Fastest I’ve had the Wagon so far was just over 150, (just getting some baseline dragy 60-130 and 100-150 numbers)
Wide open stretch of nothing somewhere in mexico...pussed out at 180...speedo was climbing hard....butt was puckered...scarry part is I took it to the shop two week later and they stated that my tires had wires showing...I told them no it is all good...they said look at the inside part...sure enough metal actually coming through...got lucky.
197 in my 02 Z06 with a Vortech blower. Ran out of track/intestinal-fortitude or I'd have got over 200 for sure. Car felt uncomfortably light at that speed.

On the same track, I can only get the Caddy to about 150. But it feels the same as it does going 70 on the highway. Because: Cadillac.
