Back in the day I had a phillips head screwdriver that I ground down to look like an oversized schrader valve core tool. I would insert one end of the circlip into the groove and walk the rest of it down into the groove with the modified screwdriver. You should have some assembly lube on those wrist pins. That helps everything slide around. Just make sure there aren't any sharp edges on your modified screwdriver to scratch the pistons or wrist pins. It wasn't perfect. I definitely sent a few flying across the room.
