First off this this has been an intermittent on going issue. This has happened while my car was stock before i modified it and is still an on going problem. Its absolutely random. 2013 CTS-V sedan Solid isolator, 2.55 upper, reinforced brick, Airraid CAI, ID850X injectors, Speed Engineering Long tube headers to stock mufflers, AEM Wide band. So my car will start sometimes and sometimes it doesnt want to but will over time. it makes a loud click sound when i turn the key and nothing. if it keep turning the key repeatedly it keeps making the sound once each time i turn it. but it will eventually start. sometimes i wont have the problem for a few days or sometimes it will do it for 2 or 3 days straight. sometimes it will start in 5 min sometimes 45 minutes. i checked my battery terminals, i put a brand new OEM starter in, i swapped the relay under the hood and still the same outcome. Any suggestions please!? thank you in advanced.

I'd start by testing your battery cables for resistance and checking that all grounds are clean and tight. I'd also get the battery tested. Have you been able to notice any kind of commonalities amongst the times it doesn't start? temp, moisture, location... anything?
Ignition switch?

Did the new starter motor come with a Bendix? Did you inspect the ring gear on the flywheel? Sounds to me like the starter motor pinion isn't meshing with the ring gear. The ring gear isn't moving between your starting attempts, but each time the pinion engages it's going to be in a slightly different place. So you try and try and try and eventually it moves forward enough to engage and the starter is allowed to crank the motor over... You don't say if this is a manual transmission. If it is, next time the car won't engage the starter, put it in 1st gear, get out and give the car a little shove to move the flywheel and then get back in and see if the starter engages and cranks. Or, you could try what I used to do when I had a problem like this on my '76 Datsun 260Z. I kept a small but heavy steel bar in the car that I could use to reach the starter motor from above. When the motor wouldn't engage, I'd open the hood and whack the starter a few times with the end of the bar. Always fixed the problem...
