What’s going on guys. I hope all is well. This is the first forum I ever joined so I’m not too sure on the etiquette or rules, but I was just wondering if keeping my v2 in a gated storage facility would be my best bet in preventing it from getting stolen. I recently saw a couple of threads from back in 2018 where the good folks in Texas were going through a V theft epidemic. I also recently noticed that the cover I placed on mine was tampered with and lifted up more than halfway multiple times. I tied it down to the exhaust so that way I can tell if it was someone else messing with it rather than the wind blowing it around. I just bought this car back in October of 2021 but the cover getting messed with barely started happening now. I’m not sure if I’m being paranoid or not but I did have my 07 tbss stolen outside my apartment a few years back so I am on edge when it comes to my cars. I’m also in LA so I’m not sure how the theft rate is over here with these cars compared to Texas.

As one of the unfortunate individuals you're speaking of, I think the best prevention is keeping it in a secure garage. I know that would have kept mine from getting stolen. So if you don't have a garage, seems like a gated storage facility is another option. Just confirm with the manager that all their cameras work and are monitored; and make sure your insurance policy covers that type of off premises storage for your vehicle.

If it's not secured in a garage, it is only a matter of time. In my opinion, you can't be too paranoid.

Is yours a Daily Driver? If not then consider a Hagerty or Grundy insurance policy. You can name how much you want to insure it for in case it is stolen.

I always put a kill switch in my vehicles. I wire it into the ignition circuit from the ECM. Any circuit that needs power for the ignition to operate. This way the car will still turn over causing the dumbass thief to think it may start causing more noise and possibly alerting someone. I find a place under the dash or some other secret location for the switch to mount. When it's off the car will not start.

Now of course this won't prevent someone just yanking the car out of your driveway or garage.

Sadly, the latter is what happened in my case and those others around the DFW metro area at that time.

I haven't done it for my V, but I used something similar to what you used on some cars in the past, except I include a timer. The car will start and run for about a minute. Long enough for the thief to get it on the street before it dies, at which point I would expect them to try to restart it a couple of times, and then I'd expect them to abandon it. No one's going to sit in a stolen car that's not running on a public street while they wait for a friendly policeman to stop and help. I interrupt the power to the fuel pump.

When I leave the V at the airport for a business trip, I pull the fuel pump fuse.

Also, since I live in suburbia, I leave the key fob in a metal tin on the "key table" near the door. This prevents "man in the middle" relay attacks (where they spoof the fob by acting as a relay station between the car and the fob using a higher power radio system).

Aside from a private garage, there is no defense against a tow truck/flat bed thief except chaining the car to something really, really heavy. Even if you block it in with another car, they can drag that one out of the way.
