How much V is too much for a reliable DD?

Looking at this. Trying to research all these parts but seems it may be a bit much for a reliable DD. Opinions?

This post got buried as it sat waiting to be approved so I thought I might inquire again. Im thinking about pulling the trigger. After doing some more research I see this car has been around a bit and seems to be a solid car.

This is the message I needed! The dealer just finished detailing it and sent me some pictures and I'm damn near drooling.

I definitely think Im going to ask him to skip the meth. It has a combo tank in the trunk but meth is just a pain to deal with and if it stops spraying it is very expensive. View attachment 166861
That's a great color. Honestly, you and I have similar builds overall (less the meth and I'm running a 2650 blower). We even share the same clutch (which I love). I have a sleeved ERL block with AllPro heads and a flex system with a custom external pump and PWM controller. I'd be interested to know what kind of cam specs you have in there.

Mine is a 234 / 252 .64x/.64x cam.

Well heck yeah! I need a neighbor like yours! Gittin' tired of the Schlitz malt liquor....
I don’t know if by Mazda platform you mean rotary, but these are not hyper sensitive like those.
i’ve had the pump go out and to me it’s a minor inconvenience. You can still drive the car you just don’t get on it. So I drive like it’s winter time.
Please also keep elevation in mind , if there is a big swing versus where you live you may want to get the tune checked out if you buy the car .
im skeptical by nature so unlessthe cars getting tuned at a very reputable shop I would count on having it tuned again by someone local to you. Chances are the around town tune will likely need some cleanup anyhow.

an eager drooling potential customer they are going to likely go for a big HP number so it makes for a cool dyno sheet and Video, have it checked when you get the car. Ask questions like how many degrees of timing, any around town videos. Or just get on a plane or in your car and go there before the thing just shows up at your house.

Good advice. This dealer sells a ton of Vs so I'm thinking he uses a reputable shop but Ill definitely ask where and about timing.

I'm also smart enough to not let the dealer know how excited I am at the potential of this car. I'm playing it cool and asking all the questions. So far the dealer has been very communicative and transparent. I also contacted the PO by phone and we chatted a good bit. Everything he told me matches up with what Ive asked the dealer and what he told me.

I do plan to try and find someone to help me out and go look at the car. Id love to fly out and check it out but I'm a teacher and right here at the end of the year there is no way I can get the time off, unfortunately.

I have a similar setup, but stock displacement. Over 800whp all in with ice in the trunk tank and also a manual.

In my opinion it's solidly in the "weekend car" category and that's exactly what mine is. If you have the space just get a cheap and reliable daily for the side and keep the miles off of such a performance oriented setup. Also I get like 9mpg in the city on e85, which is almost as expensive as regular gasoline here, so screw that.
Just an update. Matt Sorian at MS Tuning is doing the tuning.
this is a 7-8mpg car

About the same as my truck. I think I can get 10 if I stay out of the pedal. Ha, yea right. Who can stay out of the pedal?
I can get 13 in town if I don't abuse it too much but what's the fun in that? I've got a 200cc motorcycle that gets 100mpg that I ride a few days a week so realistically between the car and the bike, I'm averaging 56.5mpg. :)

It should be getting tuned today and they will send me the dyno video and sheets and specs of the tune. Assuming all is well and I can get someone to go put eyes on this thing I think I'm going to pull the trigger. But not as a DD.

Matt is a great tuner, but his neighbors do not like him lol:
We have, individually and as a group, tried to talk to Matt Sorian, owner of MS Tuning about the overly loud revving noises constantly coming from his shop. He has no interest in talking or making a change... Unless we all get together and put pressure on him, his shop, and his landlord to once and for all respect our peace of mind and our right to enjoy our neighborhoods.
I have a very similar setup, basically a FBO 416 with all forged internals, on e or pump, making around 800 RWHP, but I am running the automatic. I have daily driven it for years. Love it, but it is a bit rowdy on the street, and I do get occasional looks from people, but I try not to get on it too much in public. It is a bit scary in rain or low traction scenarios, so I leave the traction control on for that. Somehow I get a lot better gas mileage than y'all, typically in the 16 - 18 mpg range.

Wow, that is encouraging. I appreciate you dropping that in here. I don't know that I'll have the same results but I can't wait to find out. I can't believe I haven't been able to find anyone near Houston on here or on Facebook in any of the groups. I really would like someone to put eyes on it before it goes on a truck to me.
This V is too much V for a "reliable Daily driver".
Without even exploring the impact (hah) of the branded title implications, NO.
A meth-injected,ethanol drinking triple-pumped sleeved stroked, catch canned, cammed, over-driven race-car-wannabe is likely NOT a candidate for reliable car of the year.
At least MINE isn't.
Do you have a shop, with a lift, a bunch of tools, and spare time and money?
I agree way too much and yes for mine I do have a shop-lift and tools 900 @crank 670 @rwhp
FYI I'm real rich (think Fast and Furious when I let off the gas: snap crackle and pop), and i still get 11-14mpg depending on fuel. But as a daily, I'm not doing a ton of triple digit pulls. Just stop light to stop light. :D
Stock they didn’t get some of the mileage you guys are claiming lol

This isn't an EV thread (mileage is overstated by 12.5% on average vs advertised, per a recent study).

Certainly the DIC has the potential for significant error when injectors and fuel flow rates are tweaked. But that goes both ways. Clearly, the only way to verify this is by keeping track of mileage!
