I would ask for $22k. You can always take less but you can never ask for more.
I had no bites at all few years ago when I tried to sell an upper pulley package that only had 21k miles on it, was asking $12k-$14k, I forget.
I did end up selling the entire car though for about $15k with some other parts sold on it.
Bought it back for $4k from my insurance company so it worked out for me
I sold my LSA complete longblock (with trickflow heads and upgraded valvetrain) for $6k locally I think -but that was pre-COVID. It had 80k miles on it I think. I was happy to get that at the time. ETA: I paid $13k for a fully built used long block (ERL block, AllPro heads, all the goodies) and that was a steal too!

Honestly, I'd go find a comparable, well build NEW motor from someone like Thompson, and then ask $5k less than that. Transmissions are relatively cheap, so I'm not sure how much value that really adds. $22k for someone else's problem seems like a lot of coin, since you're targeting a small demographic where they need something quick, cheap, and drop-in. There's a small premium for the "right now" people who might need to replace a blown engine to sell the car, but then you're like "relative to the value of the car..."

I'm gonna say $15k for the entire combo is a more realistic number to move it quickly. Sure, motors are hard to get, but fewer people have the liquidity to write a check in the first place. And those that do, are probably looking for more than a factory motor for their hot rod.

I’d agree 15k is probably the number, I’d also anticipate a 10% or so discount on that as people that have the money expect a deal. I’d avoid the check though and go with randy moss, straight cash homie…

i probably would have found something to put my package in and kept it but when a young kid from Connecticut came with his dad and friend with the promise of rebuilding it I was happy for that . Would have torn me up looking at the car as a shell and I'm not in the parts salvage business

I'm with Random84, better for the price and peace of mind. Assuming your just interested in getting a long block and trans. Good idea to consider new pulleys, and accessories, they are relatively cheap and much easier to install while the engine is out.

I gave mine to a young father and boy, it was going to be a project for the two of them together. Appeared they were on the struggling side of life at the time.
if im not mistaken he's the one thinking of selling it, his car recently met its demise

I would have a problem buying a used engine for much at all. If I did, I would be rebuilding it completely. For any LSA long block without supercharger, I wouldn't pay more than $4k

I sold mine last March for $9,500 complete supercharger to oil pan with a 2.5 pulley and a new warranty supercharger that had been fully ported as well. Had 104,000 miles on it.
