Does anyone know if there is a way to program it so that in D, you can see what gear you are in? Similar to when you are in manual, you can see what gear you are in on the display.

You mean like when the transmission is in Sport Mode vs Tour Mode?

The earlier models don’t have that feature, I have a 2009 and it only shows if in manual, my wife 2012 does show it in sport auto. Not sure if there is anyway to change it.

Get a manual. The gear you're in will be imprinted on your brain.

So let me clarify. I'm talking about the v3. When you put the car in drive (D), no matter what mode you're in, on the display it says D. When you push the button and put it in manual, next to the M it says what gear you're in. I'm wondering if it's possible to program it so that when you're in drive (D), next to it it says what gear you're in. I know it's not a normal option on the car but I'm wondering if there is a way to program it using some sort of software. I've attached a couple of pictures for clarification.

You use the paddle and it’ll tell you what gear your on since it’ll momentarily switch to Manual mode. After about 15 seconds, it’ll go back to D.
Your other option is get an aerogauge, one of the options to show on the gauge is the gear it’s on.

Yeah, I know about this function. It's between 7 -10 seconds. I have to assume there is some sort of way to change the programming so that it shows all of the time. I did this with VCDS software on my Audi RS5.

I've got one of those Dash Commander OBD dongles for my V2. It has a mode that does the math on wheel speed vs. engine RPM to tell me what gear I'm in (displayed on the DIC).

My car's a manual, but I suspect something similar would work for an Automatic... just don't know if anyone makes something like this for the V3.
