Looks like my Dsteck GSL392 ("Walbro 255") aux pump is finally kicking the bucket. It's not truly PWM compatible, which likely contributed to it's early demise.

Ergo, I have two choices: I can replace it and go back to the Dsteck controller, or stick with my vaporworx 100% PWM setup (which, frankly I like).

So I am looking for an external, in-line pulse width modulation compatible pump. There's the Bosch 044 ($200) and the Fuel Labs 40401 ($485) that I can find, everything else seems to be "200000 HP compatible!"

The one caveat? The Bosch 044 really really likes to be gravity fed. So with my feed line coming out over the top of the fuel tank (not the traditional Aux drill and tap method); I suspect the Bosch 044 might really suffer - or not?

Any thoughts or suggestions on alternatives for $500 or less?

I just talked to fuel labs...

Another option is just get a bigger external pump, remove the in-tank DWs, run drop tubes from Adam's fuel hat, T them into an -8AN to feed the single larger external pump with PWM from the vaporworx controller....

I'd have to think about whether the OEM FPCM would still work and how to run a single pump from it while retaining the PWM functions?

Or just throw a bosch 044 on there and see how long it lasts?

DW makes a line of external pumps. I have no idea how they work with PWM, but I would assume they are the same setup as the internal pumps which seem to survive just fine.

I looked at those briefly, I don't believe they are PWM compatible.

Call Carl at VaporWorx and ask him. He likely has some insight for you. @random84

I have heard good things about the Bosch 044 but in my experience when they say the pump needs to be gravity fed they really mean it and it will lose prime really easily it it has to lift at all.

Call Carl

Adam hooked me up with him 2yrs ago.
I have his vaporworkx controller on my car.

He's a wealth of knowledge had a great conversation with him about his previous job.
I sent him a part that I made for the Mars rover that was really cool.

He's kind of like the Duck with his expansive knowledge.

He absolutely is. He also has some high up engineering connections within gm performance division and benefits from that shared knowledge as well.

I ran the 044 for a few years, zero issues until I removed the aux all together and went to dual 525 pumps in tank. You just have to upgrade the wire size for the 044 but I had a traditional aux feed of the tank, so that might change your decision.

I already have dedicated wires for the Aux pump from my vaporworx controller so a non issue.

I might just run the Bosch and see how it does. Then redo everything later if needed.

I don't really see any further big jumps in power as I already have headroom - so anything else would require a new motor.

You know now that you have said this you will be going turbo in T-minus 3 months

Nah. If anything bad happens, it would probably be a 427 CCW and a 2650 blower. That instant torque is just too nice!

So the bosch 044 is discontinued. The new pump is PR200-7 and I'm waiting to see if it's PWM compatible.

Carl at vaporworx pointed out that I cannot run a big external without internal pumps as the FPCM would throw codes (and there is no pressure relief outside the tank.

AEM has an external pump that is PWM compatible and sized well, and can handle 2-3 ft of vertical pumping (per them) so I will give it a try.

None of the popular TI / walbro pumps (gsl 392 / 396) are PWM compatible per TI auto - even though I had the 392 work for almost 2 years. It's just not ideal.

Note: I have decided to keep my entire fuel system PW modulated, combined with top-of-the-tank feed lines, which is why I have special requirements.

For many people, just sticking with the Dsteck Aux kit would be more than adequate on a dead-head system.

Been reading a ton of your fueling stuff recently, Random. Doing a fuel system on my car at the moment. Did you go with the AEM 50-1005 controlled with the vaporworx controller?
Yes. Running wonderfully since the install and some tune tweaks.
