Expensive old change

2382 Views 27 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  subaru335i
I am lining up stuff to do for next week/year and decided that I should get the oil changed in my NSX.

I have owned it for 5 years and done nothing to it as I don't drive it that much (4k miles).

Also getting the brake fluid replaced.

Oil change is over $400.00, NINE freaking drain plugs!

The engine oil is distilled from unicorn piss.lol

Neighbor has a NSX. Yep, it's expensive to operate. And fun to drive. I had a blast, and that launch control was excellent.
My 348ss was double that. You got off easy.

Shouldn't you be changing that oil every year, regardless of miles? I know $400 per change is a lot, but it's a pittance compared to a motor/turbo rebuild/replacement.

When I got the car the service guy told me to wait till the car told me the oil needed to be changed, and it will.

I still haven't put enough mileage on the car to trigger the warning, but I figure 5 years is long enough.

I would bleed the brake fluid myself, but I am getting lazy.

IDK man. I don't trust most service advisers as far as I could throw them. Acura's maintenance schedule says every year if you haven't reached the maintenance minder mileage limit.

"Maintenance Main Items (A-B)
If a maintenance minder indicator does not appear more than 12 months after the display is reset, change the engine oil every year."

As long as it wasn't required to enforce the warranty, I don't care.

That is just a recommendation anyway.

UPDATE:

So a moderator on the NSX forum makes a big show of posting that HONDA requires the oil be changed once a year.

I point out it is a recommendation and not a warranty requirement, which he insists it is.

Said moderator goes to the play book (owners manual) and posts the section about why HONDA wants the oil changed yearly, about 4 paragraphs.

(When in doubt, go to the manual!)

I then post what said moderator missed at the very last of his own posting:

"However, a warranty claim will not be denied if a part fails due to a defect in material or workmanship for reasons unrelated to the improper maintenance or operation."

Of course the guy doesn't have the stones to admit he is WRONG.

I know if I would have called out his horseshit I would get banned.

Different forum, different moderator.

Post a reply with a link to this thread, maybe?

Actually I think the moderator trolls this forum.

I consider it an attribute of human nature prevalent in jerks.

Someone insists they are right, up to the point they are proven wrong, then they don't have the stones to admit they are wrong.

As I said, different moderator, different forum.

Update:

Guys doesn't give up and posted more opinion shit (this time).

I told him he should learn the difference between a recommendation and a mandate.

For shits and giggles here is a link for anyone interested.

He’s from Santa Barbara, what do you expect?

;)

I don’t think the oil actually changes, it’s all about the additives and contamination.

But, opinions are like assholes, everyone has them.

Since I’ve owned my V, I’ve never paid anyone to change my oil.

I don’t trust those hacks at all.

I don’t blame you. I’m the same way. I had Bmr do my last one because I was in a sling from shoulder surgery. But other than them, no way would I trust the dealership or one of the oil change places

I’m sure your wife would have been happy for you to teach her how to do it?

Oh she loves that stuff. I taught her how to do plugs last time and she thought it was awesome. That’s definitely one thing I love about her. She always wants to learn that stuff. I try and teach her anytime I’m wrenching on the cars or the Harley’s
