I’m sure this has been discussed before, but I am just curious how much timing most are running on E85. I just got my dsx aux pump and flex sensor on this weekend and working on remote tuning this week. Below is what my car is currently at and an example of what I am looking for.

Boost: 14 psi
Ethanol content:62%
WOT timing: 22.5°

The issue is different setups, so it’s really pointless. Plus, mine hasn’t been on a dyno on ethanol so it’s not optimized, making it further pointless.

I have a mild cam, ported blower, ported heads, etc.

You should be on a dino or track testing, you don’t want too much.

Be careful comparing yourself to others on the internet. I assume you are running stock heads and cam?

Most of us aren't.

Stock heads seem to like a little more timing because they are less efficient on 93. Ethanol has more detonation resistance and a faster flame front.

In low load areas that are not octane limited, you actually run less timing on e85.

At WOT where pre-detonation limits your timing for max torque, or on high compression engines, e85 shines.

Generally, you could cause engine damage without seeing KR on the sensors on e85 as it resists detonation and also has higher chamber pressures.

Some people have benefited from up to 6* of additional timing on e85, but every engine, setup and tuning style is different. In my very limited experience, I wouldn't go above 4* additional timing over 4k RPM at WOT without verifying on a dyno that additional advance is helpful.

No warranty is expressed or implied by my post.

At 22 psi of boost, we peak at 24 degrees of timing on E & Meth.
Forged Stock cube, cam & heads by Tony, Kong 2650,4.5" intake . We ran both the 102mm and the 112mm and for a reason or another, no HP gain what so ever with the 112mm.
878 RWHP Auto car.Stock converter,17" DR.
Trying to hit 900 RWHP without Nitrous on stock cubes.

That sounds pretty stout. Can you share how you came up with 24 degrees of max advance? In other words, were you on a dyno and realized that 25* offered no further increase in HP or TQ; or was it based off data logs on the street, or simply an educated guess?

I need to get a dyno on E...

It wasn't making more power on the dyno and by reading the plugs,it was as high as I wanted to go. 24 degrees is at 6200+ RPM..only. The car hasn't been on the drag strip since 2019. Back then when it was at 765RWHP,it ran 10.13 for an ET which was pretty darn good In my opinion. So hopefully with the added power that's it's making now,Hopefully a 9.99 if the rest of the car stays together .lol.... But we did ran it on a air strip for some 1 mile test runs, and datalogs and it survived. But the IAT's were getting pretty high at the end.We are wating for a bigger heat exhanger. But I think we won't run that car on the mile again. We didn't built that car for that.
