Driver Turn Signal and Trunk Not Working

958 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Sudderth
I have an interesting one for y'all. My trunk all of a sudden won't open with any of the buttons (door/trunk/fob). I can open it via the keyhole, but the trunk actuator just won't respond to anything.

At the same time, the driver side brake light/turn signal stopped working.

I checked all of the fuses on both the front and back of the trunk panel and everything checks out. I also tried replacing the trunk actuator but nothing.

Anybody have this happen to them?

They MAY have a ground in common. I would start there.
Use a multimeter and check for continuity between the actuator's connector and chassis ground.

check the wiring at the hinge point on the trunk. open the trunk and it is that woven material on the right side of the back portion of the trunk. the wires break there and cause all kinds of issues. mine did it twice and the second time I removed the plastic reinforcement as it was causing the wires to bend in one spot until they break. solder and heat shrink the wires and you should be good to go...

Good Idea, that should be fairly easy to do since I have access to the connectors at the moment.

I found another thread mention something similar except it talked about a plug that they terminate to (and I couldn't find). How did you actually find the breaks in the wires? Did you remove all of the woven material?
The wiring harness on the right side of the lower edge of the trunk. the plastic harness holder confines the harness where it will only bend at one place and that causes the wiring to break. I fixed mine with solder and heat shrink and it failed a year later just next to the place the harness was repaired. The second time I removed the hard plastic wiring channel and wrapped the wires. Been a couple of years now and no issues. It should be mentioned that someone on the forum said that the wiring shorted on theirs and it killed the Body Control Module. At a minimum you need to get the wires separated to prevent shorting.
