Ctsv or amg

I'm sure this has been talked about before but I feel like I need a pep talk. I'm in between keeping my own ctsv or selling it and getting a 2013 amg with the p31 package. The qualities I'm looking for is performance, reliability and value.

Value usually means keeping what you have. It's expensive to trade in / up. Performance and reliability sounds like the CTSV. More luxury/ recognizable branding sounds like AMG.

CTS-V will be much , much less to maintain. Also has plentiful parts.

I don't know if I'd ever use 'value' when describing anything Mercedes... But also, exactly everything else that's been said already.

If you want to spend more money all the way around, AMG all they way. Don’t forget to check on how much more insurance will run. Not for sure, but most of the time there will be a good difference.

There is no such thing as a 2013 AMG. There are several models made by AMG i.e. C63, E63 etc. Probably want to start by telling us which actual model you are trying to compare.

I’m guessing he means c63 p31. I owned one right before my ctsv wagon. I still miss that AMG. Great package. I had the sedan.

Where is it listed if you don’t mind me asking?

I left out the c63 part. I apologize. But yes it's a 2013 c63 amg with the p31 package

I'm in Germany. It's in Frankfurt
The 2013 C63 amg is an NA v8 with more than 100hp less than the V but it is significantly smaller and lighter than the V. The V is more comparable to the E63 AMG.
The V is waaaaay easier to mod to get more power, good luck getting much more power from an already high strung NA V8.

Also, I am not sure on when/if they fixed the issues but that AMG 6.3L engine has several huge problems with head bolts and cams which both are expensive to fix and can destroy the very expensive engine.

The V engine (at least in the US) would be way way cheaper to replace or rebuild than a DOHC AMG engine.

I am wrestling with a similar decision but it is for trading up to a newer F90 M5 from the V, I personally think the W204 C63 is a step backwards unless you want something smaller and lighter that might handle a little better.

I agree on the F10 M5 but the M90 M5 is a fuckin BEAST (and I think it looks a lot nicer than previous M5s). The only thing that has me leaning away from it is the depreciation. I have a manual and I could sell my V for more than I bought it for after 7 years and a bunch of miles.
These German cars depreciate a lot more (except 911s) and that has a big factor in total cost of ownership unless you want to own something forever.

The Mercedes would be a step down. I owned a C63 at the same time I owned my 2010 V sedan. I currently DD a 2017 C43 and own a 2012 V Wagon. A newer C63 or C63s is a much better car, the 2018 up M5's are amazing, but unless you can swing a warranty, you would be breaking a cardinal rule, never own a German/Italian car without a warranty. I have no fear of owning a V without a warranty and while my current DD is out of warranty, it was CPO when I bought it so I had a year to make sure it was not a problem child. If a warranty is not an issue for you then do not rule out an Audi RS5 or S5 and one you may not have thought about but is an amazing car, a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadfifoglio. They are around 50-70k used, 500hp twin turbo v6 is basically a cutdown Ferrari motor, and the gearbox is amazing.

I would be wayyyy more scared of owning a used Alfa (even though I really like the quadrifoglio) than an MB or BMW.
You also have to look at the DIY community for each platform IMO. Obviously here you can find out how to pretty much do anything you could ever need DIY on a V.
I have found the same for BMW and Porsche, there is a lot of DIY mentality in the community so maintenance and common issues are easy to figure out.

Im not sure on a Mercedes or Audi but I would highly doubt there is much community around the Alfas here because they dont seem to sell well and are still pretty rare.
The community is growing, but you are still correct, and I agree. I am still thinking about selling my C43 and getting one, there is not to much I cannot fix myself and the engine/trans have shown to be good pieces. Common sense will probably take over before a purchase and I will get a newer C63s though.

Yeah I really like the W205 C63's with the TT 4L V8.
The new W206 C63 with the new turbo i4 and hybrid system isn't my cup of tea. It might be fast but it loses out on the sound and character and there is no way it will have the modding potential that the turbo previous V8s did. Its more like a Tesla than an AMG.

G80 M3 or the F90 M5 are what really have me thinking of selling the V lol. They have so much tuning potential with just simple bolt ons and are so nice inside (but the M3 is fugly imo).
I trounced a C6.3 AMG biturbo a week ago. Embarrassed him so bad that he didn't even try a second time.

My mods are in my signature line. I've done more for less money.

I mean you have done a whole hell of a lot of mods. But congrats on the kill, Im guessing it was stock?
Those 4L TT V8's can do like 700whp with a tune, downpipes, and some ethanol and 800+ with upgraded stock frame turbos.

Exact same for me, I’m considering a 18-21 C63 or M5. A tune and DPs and the Mercedes is a solid low 11 second car. A tune and DPs on the BMW and it will embarrass just about everything.
