cts v awd possible?

4158 Views 60 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  MrSurly
Just curious I've been thinking about attempting a awd set up on my v, and I'm wondering what parts would it take to make this happen if at all possible?

Obviously custom work will need to be done. Is there any LS based AWD platforms I could use as donor parts.

Words cannot describe my thoughts right now.

I was thinking about how the cv axels would work and that kinda came to mind of using truck parts but probably no room because of ride hight.

You are off, again.

I actually am startled by your posts. I’m left wondering if you are trolling, or worse.

I do have a coupe shell hmmm I could drop that on to tbss frame and slam it 🤔

Just some guy that has no idea what he is doing but is determined to make it work one way or another an you guys get to be the lucky ones to help make it happen.

But I guess your not into custom things or just a good'ol diy'er trying to make shit happen.
What would it take to make cts v awd
A miracle. That's what it'd take. An absolute friggin' miracle.

GM offered the CTS in a AWD version, but only with the 3.8L motor. No room for a transfer case and front diff with a big-ass V8 stuffed in over the front wheels... So you could make your V in to an AWD car. All you need to do is scrap the engine and replace it with something puny and underpowered. And no speculation or fabrication is required. You can buy all the parts, including the engine, direct from GM.

There's a reason why almost all of the high hp TBSS builds convert from AWD to RWD if they didn't start as RWD. Less drive train components to break.

It’s easy, just need the awd kit they sell on eBay. Supposedly it’s only a half day swap… Been done a 100 times!

What fuckin planet are these guys living on!?
I also just clicked on a lfx to MONSTER 6.2 ls9 thread. What a fuckin waste. I can’t stand these fuckin people.

MONSTER ls9, fuck, it’s a small cubic inch V8 with a blower. Nothing monster about it.

Can’t believe what these people do… wild guess, they are posting from one of the “safe” drug tents out west somewhere! Haha

Seriously... we've (probably each of us at some point) had the thought that AWD would so freakin sweet at the same HP levels but Caddy didn't offer it.
Caddy DID offer AWD on this same platform, so it seems like it oughta be doable....almost a bolt-in.
but then logic walks in, picks up physics and beats your ass with it.
AWD hardware takes up space. Even the little bitty lightweight components used behind 200-horse v6s. Now imagine up-sizing all those components to 6 or 800 hp ratings... the components are now much larger. now replace the tiny trans used on the V6 with a 6L80E. Then notice that an LSA can't go into the engine bay at all because of the new diff and axles.
Somewhere there is a build article where a huge amount of coin is put into creating an AWD with a TR6060 and a TBSS T-case and it's a very serious effort to build a high-HP awd racer and IT uses a truck frame as a platform.
I guess you could use the Toronado's THM425 for inspiration and mount the front diff to the engine and run an axle through the pan... but you couldn't use the 425 itself, you'd have to remotely mount the Tcase... But the V would become at least 10" WIDER and the floorpan would need to be raised about 8 inches relative to the drivetrain (or just get rid of the passenger seating)
Also the car would likely need to gain a few inches of wheelbase. BTW: your new AWD-V will likely weigh in at a svelte 6100 lbs.

I implore you... PLEASE start a build thread, because I PROMISE I'll follow.

Yisssssss!

DO eet!

Actually, when I saw your post, I thought "he's trolling Karch!"

There have been other discussions in the forum on the subject. Serious discussions considering the (considerable) impediments to making a real, successful AWD V.
What makes YOUR post appear to be trolling is your asking "which parts do I need" as if this were an extant option that your car was ordered without.... but if only you had the list of parts that Caddy uses, you could buy those parts and bolt it on... like adding Bose or heated seats.

Looks like you just have to lift it slightly LOL.
And add some space low down by routing the exhaust out the top.

A LIFTED 4X4 CAMARO ZL1 SENDS IT UP THE SAND DUNES
I wouldn't be surprised to see a V or two like this in 10-20 years LOL
