Coupe window drop issue

1186 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Gohawks63
‘12 Coupe. Noticed recently that when opening the driver side door the window isn’t staying dropped so when I close the door the glass is making contact with the roof.

It happens sporadically. I did the window reset procedure but it’s still happening. It also seems like it is only happening when I open the door from the outside. When I press on the pad the window drops, but immediately goes back up when I release it. Doesn’t seem to be happening when I open the door from the inside, which makes me think it’s the touch pad.

Anyone else run into this?

Thanks.

It would be worth your time to take the pad off and clean it with electrical cleaner. Very simple to do and cleared my same problem. If you go on youtube there are videos, but most pertain to the corvette however it is the same concept.

Thanks. I saw a video on it.

I went back out and must’ve opened the door from the inside 10-15 times and no issue. Tried the same from the outside and the issue happened almost half the time. So hoping that solves the problem.

Thank you.

Tried this and so far it looks like it may have worked.

Thank you.

If it acts up again replace the door latch. Mine did it in 2017. Dealer replaced the door latch and it hasn't done it since.

Tried this and so far it looks like it may have worked.

Thank you.

Awesome! I did end up replacing my door latch also later down the line just like PGA2B said, but I cant remember if it was because of this issue or another. Hope it keeps working for you, but if you do end up needing to replace the door latch keep in mind there are two different latches depending on if you have the theft deterrent security system on your car or not. Very minor differences between the two...

I’ve had the door latch replaced years ago. That was because the radio would not turn off after opening the door. That issue just started acting up again and tried the solution of lubricating the latch with silicone spray and working it in. That addressed that issue.

This was a different symptom entirely. The door would unlatch when opening the door and the window would drop, but raised as soon as you released the outside pad. It only happened when opening the door from the outside. Never happened when opening from the inside.

That’s why I didn’t think it was the latch. If the latch was bad it shouldn’t matter whether you opened the door from inside or out.

Mine has done this once or twice, good to know it might be a simple fix.

Just spraying the mechanism isn’t enough. You need to work the latch with your finger back and forth and then spray a bit more.

Repeat a few times.

Before that the symptom was happening pretty regularly and now I’ve gone a good stretch without it reoccurring.

Apparently the grease gets old and a bit sticky preventing the latch from fully releasing. It releases enough to open the door, but not enough to turn off the retained power.

At least that’s what I’m guessing and was able to observe while I was doing it.
