Hey all,

I’ve been wanting a CTS-V for a little while now. Sedan, stick shift, luxurious, fast, sporty, and reliable. Pretty much everything I want without the crazy markup of the CT5V Blackwings.

I found this one on Facebook. I will paste the description to protect the sellers privacy:

2009 Cadillac CTS V Sedan ** Rare spec. built in Blue Diamond Tri-coat w/ Titanium interior, Recaro seats, and Manual transmission. 63,000 (chassis) miles. Exterior in great condition. Black Wheels are factory Cadillac (Coupe rears) Interior with Alcantara titanium recaro seats. Brand new Carbontastic steering wheel. Carbon fiber interior trim. Aeroforce gauge. Stock LSA crank with K1 rods and Wiseco pistons. BTR stage 2 cam. The stock heads have been mildly CNC ported. The fuel delivery curtesy of dual fuel pumps, 1050id injectors, and an E85 flex fuel kit. 2” Stainless Works headers with Magnaflow axle back. Manual Transmission just inspected 700mi ago when new McCleod RTX 1200 Dual Disc clutch and flywheel was installed. Clean title, No accidents, rust free. **Engine built at 53,000mi. Stock LSA crank. K1 rods. Wiseco pistons. Heads mild port, BTR valve train, 740 pushrods LS7 lifters. BTR stage 2 Cam. Stock Blower w/ Spacer for E85. 4.5” Air Intake. ID 1050 Injectors with flew fuel kit. Dual DW 300 fuel pumps. MSD wires TR6 plugs. Stainless Works Headers. Magnaflow catback. Fasterproms Ice Box Kit (water wetter, water, antifreeze mix). Upper pulley 2.50 Lower pulley ATI 8.9. ARP Head studs, ARP manifold studs. Rear wheels 10” off Coupe with 305/35-19 EXTRAS: Brand new in box complete ZL1 lid w/ brick. Set of 17” WELD Rear wheels w/ slightly used Hoosier SlicksCar cover **Price: $43,500 *

The build was performed under the previous owner’s care, and as I understand it, it was done by a tuning shop in Florida. I’ve checked the Carfax and everything looks proper. The build sounds pretty good with lots of the mods being supporting/cooling-related.

Clean Vs around here (Missouri) typically go for around 32k-37k, but they’re usually auto coupes with minimal mods. The extra lid and Weld wheels w/ slicks are worth at least $2k on their own. Curious about everyone’s thoughts on pricing, the mod list, forecasted reliability, any other questions I should ask, etc. I plan on getting a PPI performed as well.

Example of what I would be looking for if messing with another person's pile.

Power numbers/track numbers?
Who built the engine?
Who ported the heads?
Were trunions installed?

What is the duty cycle on e85?

"Stock blower with spacer for e85". I have no clue what a "spacer for e85" is—it sounds like the current owner has no idea.

Is the tank drilled, or is a billet aux hat installed?
If drilled, how long ago? (The sealant on the tank fitting could be at the end of its lifecycle. HUGE PITA to fix.)

You can also check if the tank is wet on the passenger side if the factory hat is installed—another HUGE PITA to fix.

I don't see cooling mods listed besides the tank? What pump, hx, lines, etc.

I noticed the wrong heat range plugs installed for the estimated power level according to mods. What gap was set? (If they give you a vague answer here, you know they have no clue about the car, or build, or most likely anything. I would also guess it was hotdogged, like the town bike, which makes me believe this is why a "new clutch disc installed" at relatively low miles……...)

You could do a Blackstone test, but the results might not tell you a whole lot. I'd ask for the oil pressure reading when hot and compression/leak down numbers.

You don't want to buy something to rip right back apart. If you looked at it in person, I'd check the catch can. That will tip you off about the state of the engine.

Coupe wheels will poke out of the fenders on a sedan and will look goofy as hell. (I'm not sure if you can machine the wheel hub face or not, I don't have a sedan.)

If any of this doesn't make sense, I will hope you have a shop ready with your CC in hand, or else if not, RUN!!!

These cars are not a problem running at these power levels, but you need to have some skin in the game. Alternatively, you could find a shop that is willing to burn cash as fast as you can make it, to keep it running smoothly.

I left out a bunch of valve-train stuff, so if you are unsure what I am talking about, this should be a red flag for you to learn or find an LS shop.

I am not trying to be negative here but giving you a glimpse into Pandora's box. When it goes upside down, it goes fast.

Did you buy the car? I have never seen Blue Diamond tri-coat. I love the color.
Nah, the seller wouldn’t take a cashiers check and refused to let me see the car before driving 4 hours to my bank to get cash (and I didn’t really want to do that much cash anyways). He said he wasn’t a dealer and was doing me a favor by selling the car which also rubbed me the wrong way.

I agree though, the color and car seemed awesome. Unfortunate it didn’t work out. Hopefully I can find another lowish mileage V shortly. Btw Sbchris, I appreciate the help.

He wouldn't let you lay eyes on the car or do you mean take lots of pictures?

He took a good amount of pictures and videos which I appreciated but I wanted to just see the car in person and have a good chat with him before actually bringing the money and he was unwilling. I had full plans on buying as long as everything was up to par but oh well. He said he had other interested buyers so he wasn’t willing to “waste his time meeting more than once” but here we are weeks later and unsurprisingly the car is still listed lol.

Where in Missouri are you?
I bounce around between Columbia (where I’m from) and Kansas City.

Welcome! I'm from just south of Joplin. My mom lives up around Lamar now. I live currently overseas so I'm usually home during the summer. Hoping my wagon will be done by then so I can finally drive it after 2.5 years of owning it.
