ok i haven't research that at all

is that something i can do from the top with the boot removed or do i need to go underneath?
The shifter box and shift rod linkage can be accessed from the top (you have to remove the boot and plastic trim pieces, potentially the entire center console).

There are two screws at the rear of the shifter box that can come loose - those can only be accessed from the bottom with the exhaust out (but you can see if they're present from the top).
The aluminum box itself has two arms visible from the bottom - sometimes those can snap also.

It's a real bitch to get to, depending on if something is loose or broken. I have a thread on all this somewhere in this subsection.
