Cleaning Tips

768 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Jim
Took all my wheels off to clean the in/outside. I've got these annoying black specks that I haven't been able to get off. I tried Simple Green and elbow grease, and then wheel cleaner. Neither worked, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Acetone - just try it on a small spot on a small area before you remove the wheel just to see if it works and it doesn't mess up your wheel finish.
Try mineral spirits as well. Let it sit for a while before applying elbow grease.
Try the mineral spirits first as it is less "nasty". It should be easier on the wheels, but it will also be easier on the gunk you are trying to remove at the same time.
I've used this for bad situations and everything came off no problem.

Get a plastic scraper and tar remover. Its tar. The scraper takes off most of it and the tar remover softens the rest. Try that before getting into the harsh chemicals.

Best stuff I have used so far is Stoner company product Tarminator. Although now the label says Tar & Sap Remover. I don't know what the chemical composition is but takes tar of paint and wheels as well as that annoying glue that is transfered from price tags to the items of your store bought goods.
