As posted in the other “catch can?” thread, the way that you described your setup is problematic as there’s no “inlet air” to your engine. The correct fix would be to simply restore the inlet tube-to-valve-covers connection.
If you do not want to do this (I’d love to know why) then, in your case, the filler vent would actually be better than what you’re doing now as it would at least relieve the vacuum you are creating in the crankcase. However, it would still be a problem because in this scenario you’d be introducing “unmetered air” into the system which has bypassed the MAF. Possibly enough to cause problems with OBD? I don’t know.
