Hi all!

What you all think is the best sports car to pair with our CTS-Vs? In my ideal garage, I'd have a counterpart sports car that would complement the CTS-V by offering driving experiences not found in the V.

I loved my 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S test drive, so I'm seriously considering that as the perfect match. (I blogged on it here.) The rear-engine dynamics are something completely different, and the car is much lighter and more nimble than my V. Even with turbos, the engine loves to rev and delivers great top-end power.

Actually, I think the 911 GT3 is my perfect match. It really delivers NA engine thrills that the V and new 992-gen 911 are missing, plus the unique 911 handling traits!

My current AMG GT S is also a good match for the V. For one, in the V you drive from the front of the car; in the GT S you drive from the back! 😂 The GT S has super-quick turn in and a very stiff suspension that amplifies the seat feedback. But I don't feel like the GT S is perfect complement, as it has a similar power delivery to the V. (Big torque everywhere and not much build at redline.)

(I love the current Camaros, but they are too similar to the V in the way they ride and deliver power to be an ideal good second car for me.)

So, what do you think is the best sports car partner for the V?

Cheers!
Mike

I've never been in any of the Atom style cars. Yes, I see the argument! Though I suspect I'm not hard-core enough to enjoy the Atom for long.

Since my first post I've also thought about the Subaru BRZ or S2000 as lightweight, high-revving options.

The NSX is definitely a great pairing and a very different car!

BRZ is a track low cost track day. If I have a student with a high power car or a BRZ, I opt for the BRZ every time.
Well sure, as an instructor that is a no brainer! :D

I haven't driven a ZR1, but I'd think the supercharged power delivery, suspension tech and tuning would be similar to the V?

I have a 911 and a Honda S2000. The S2000 is a great contrast to the V, small light convertible revs to 9k.
Just bought a new Lexus LX 570 too which is a nice compliment for hauling/offroad while still be luxurious quiet and nice to drive.

Since I sold the V I have been jonezing for a CIVIC type "R" with a DCT.

I am so over manual transmissions!
Really? Have you driven a Type R? My son owns one and I wasn’t too impressed. Sloooooooow! And no power IMHO. Am I missing something?

Yeah, it's no beast with 550HP+, but it is still quick for what it is. 300HP out of a Civic is nothing to sneeze at.

As for OP, my initial gut reaction was 911. Take a look at a C8? C8 Z06 maybe?

C8 is pretty ugly but the C8 Z06 is tempting to me.

I love the 911 though if you want amazing handling, high quality/luxurious interior, and great resale value (mine has appreciated lol).
If I had the money a 992 GT3 would be my pick 100%

I'd go first gen R8 V10+ with 3 pedals/RWD conversion as the perfect companion for the V.
